how to select which contact folder to sync using activesync ?

It will only sync with the default outlook contacts folder which is why you don't get an option to change it in activesync. If you want to sync with a different folder you'll need to make a new profile in outlook and then use your contacts folder as the default in the new profile. Works fine if you set outlook to prompt you for a profile when you start it.

is there any other software to perform this ?

There's a program called PocketMrror which I considered but it's $50 for a licence. I went for the new profile option, it's free!
