Those with AVI playback/Touch Player crash issues...

Sorry if this has been posted before but I have a solution to Touch Player and WMP crashing when playing SOME AVI files.

It happens when a non-zero bit is found in the MP3 structure of the AVI file.

You may notice the Omnia is powerful enough to play a large 300 and 700 MB AVI file without the need for any conversion on your PC - unlike with many other phones. The Omnia can just play it! So to fix this Touch Player crash issue with some AVIs, download VirtualDub on your PC. Drop your AVI file into it. If you get a message saying AVI: Variable bitrate (VBR) audio detected, this is OK and your AVI should play normally.

But, if you get a message saying AVI: A non-zero wBitsPerSample value was detected in the MP3 audio format structure, then you need to use VirtualDub to fix this error and it only takes about a minute or less. It is this error that causes some AVI's to crash Touch Player and WMP on the Omnia.

So if you get that error, press OK on the message on VirtualDub, go to the Video menu and choose Direct Stream Copy. Do the same for the Audio menu. Now go to File > Save as AVI..., and save it somewhere or give the file a new name. After a few seconds it will build the fixed AVI file. This new file may still show the AVI: Variable bitrate (VBR) audio detected, error if you drop it into VirtualDub, but it shouldn't show the AVI: A non-zero wBitsPerSample error.

Now drop this new AVI onto your Omnia and you should have a playable AVI. VirtualDub didn't convert the video down, it's the same AVI, just with the MP3 portion bits fixed.

Hope this helps some.
