Guest vlodek Posted November 12, 2008 Report Posted November 12, 2008 After soft reset i have about 58MB free program memory. Using the Omnia for one week and more slowly reduces the free program memory to about 38MB. Stopping all applications via task manager didn't help. There are probably some windows processes that are constantly added and are not released. Also the Omnia becomes slower . Can anybody advice about solution, besides soft reset ?
Guest Steve_T Posted November 12, 2008 Report Posted November 12, 2008 Try Memmaid, usefull tool for killing apps, freeing RAM, settings for speed and memory and a few other bits. Available from www.handango.com

I envy you, did you manage to keep your Omnia on constantly for a week? I couldn't manage keeping it on for max 2 days so far, after 2 months of use! I always have problems with the "Messaging" application not launching, "My Storage" dismount, and sometimes the device hanging. I am an Official J1 rom from the Service center, no tweaks or hacks applied, and only a handful of useful applications installed! oh and 4 email accounts, 3 of them in push "exchange, an imap and hotmail" and a pop account, all having the My Storage "obviously" the target for attachments. Anyway, your problem is a classic windows mobile known issue, you either use memmaid, sktools, or other similar applications. They also have automated processes that can compact/defrag RAM, close unclosed applications and speed up the whole system every specific interval and when the device is not used.
Guest tjlabais Posted November 13, 2008 Report Posted November 13, 2008 (edited) hmmm. it's my 5th day without soft reset. Performance is still at its peak, BUT I am using a self cooked version of Official HJ1 because I remove the Touch Whiz and the main menu app. With this, I no longer have the problem of consuming my RAM like the official one. I use oxios freeware memory freeing app. About My Storage dismounting, I haven't experienced it yet. I will try to find out also... quote: removed. Edited November 13, 2008 by tjlabais

My Omnia can work weeks without soft reset . Only the consuming program memory problem. I had the problem of blank screen but it was connected to SPB Shell . I don't know why because many Omnia users are satisfied with the Spb Shell but my Omnia doesn't "like" it for some reason, that i didn't find. Edited November 13, 2008 by vlodek

Anyway, did you use SKTools or memmaid? did they resolve your problem?

Guest meabigbaldguy Posted November 13, 2008 Report Posted November 13, 2008 I've been reading a lot about different problems that many of you are having with your Omnia, and to be honest, I'm taken a little surprised by what I've read so far. I've bought my unbranded/unlocked Omnia from a dealer in Singapore during a visit there nigh two months ago, and I have to say that the only real bug I've seen so far is just a device hang from time to time which requires a soft reset. I don't think that this is a Samsung issue, but rather a Windows issue, and I come to expect this sort of behavior from Windows anyway. I tolerate it though because Windows allows for nearly endless flexibility, which makes this phone very appealing to me - OVER iPhone! Anyway, please allow me to comment on some of your posts... I use Memmaid. I haven't seen the other stuff, but I think it's a very dynamic program. From what I know, My Storage will dismount when the device sleeps, so if you're using a program like Skype, then I wouldn't load it on My Storage. If you would like excellent Device and Program Memory, then I highly recommend flashing Modaco's MCR03 ROM (see forum dedicated to ROM'S), it's lite, it works well, all the riff-raff that you'll never use has been removed, apps have been nicely optimized, Samsung apps have been uncompromised, and it'll leave you with just over 102 MB after flashing. There have been some posts about some bugs, but I haven't seen any at all myself. Hope this helps!

Guest samjuan Posted November 14, 2008 Report Posted November 14, 2008 Will try them on weekend , a little busy now. What is better SKTools or Memmaid ? Thanks . Memmaid is easier to use, however SKTools has more options. In Memmaid, there is compact RAM, with close programs option, I think this is it. I am on SKTools however.

Slowly slowly but consuming. Like some precesses are added constantly or something with the paging mechanizm like the pages are not released.
Guest jclsm Posted November 15, 2008 Report Posted November 15, 2008 Hi With Memmaid I set each night a silent Clean Scheduling. No need to do anything else. B)
