Hi All, i've been browsing through the vodafone unhelpfull forum and come across this thread:

The thread starter is by a guy called Audio Oblivion and reads as thus:

Here is a list of changes made by Vodafone to the original Omnia firmware.

Some of the reasons behind these changes are obvious but others have me completely baffled.

1. Startup Logo changed from Samsung to Vodafone.

2. Vodafone Live mapped to right soft key.

3. Second page from Samsung main menu removed. - (?)

4. Touch scrolling removed from program and settings menu. - (?)

5. Powercalc removed from programs menu - (?)

6. Google maps removed from programs menu. - (?)

7. Task Switcher removed (accessed on vanilla firmware via an upsweep from bottom to top/middle of screen with finger) - (?)

8. Landscape switching animations removed (with vanilla software you can alter the rotate animation between 7 different types) - (?)

Please could someone from Vodafone list the reasons behind each amendment to the firmware that i dont understand (highlighted in bold). The list may not be comprehensive so other forum users please feel free to add to it.

Also... with regard to google maps, powercalc and task switcher. These applications are still installed on the device but are simply hidden (ie removed from start menu as stated above). This is even more baffling as these applications will just sit there taking up device memory. If Vodafone didnt want these apps on the device then why not remove them completely?

Please could someone explain this to me?

(P.S. Please note that i havent mentioned the problems caused by altering the original firmware... there are other threads discussing this matter.)

The thread is here

Thanks to paul MVP i've downloaded the task switcher and powercalc (which I can't move into my programmes folder for some reason - it's stuck in the system folder)

but is it possible to get the Third Today screen (I have today 1 and 2) and other missing aspects ?

It would appear that VF are getting quite a slating over this, and i've added my pennie's worth on the where's the ROM thread.

Apparently Samsung are due to release an official UK rom imminently, and I am seriously contemplating flashing this instead of the VF stuff.

Apparently it is fully ocvered by samsung's 12 month warranty rather than VF's which will then be invalidated but given the problems of other omnia owners at the hands of vodafone is it such a bad thing?

just to let you know mate... Audio Oblivion is me B)

I cannot believe the amount of response my threads are getting on the Vodafone forums... it is unbelievable!

With regard to your specific issue about today screen 3... as far as i know there isnt a today 3... only 1 and 2.

It is the second page from the Samsung main menu that VF have removed.

Also... i think the release of the updated Vodafone branded firmware (HJ4) is imminent. this has been hinted at by Modaco's very own Secany in this thread:

see post #1540

( also... i replied to you on VF forum B) )
