Finally, after a week of weighing up the pros and cons, I have ordered the Touch HD. I persevered with the Omnia, which I do like, but alas, the few niggly problems that I had with it have evolved into major issues.

The battery life on this device is quite poor in my opinion. I tried 4 different Roms but it didn't seem to make much difference.

Wifi connectivity was another problem. Connecting and staying connected to a wifi signal was frustrating. Randomly disconnecting and constantly stating that my WEP code was incorrect (which it wasn't btw) was quite common. When it was connected, the heat generated from the back of the device was actually quite alarming.

Finally the GSM signal strength was always quite poor with my Omnia. I don't live in an area with the best service signal, granted, but my other devices (using the same sim) managed to keep the signal without ever dropping it.

I don't mean to sound as if I'm putting the Omnia down, I'nm not. Perhaps I've just been unlucky with this particular phone.

Or perhaps I'm just trying to justify the purchase of a second PPC in 3 months to myself! Look out when the wife see's my shiny new Touch HD! Why don't women see gadgets the same way as we do?!

I just wonder how well the battery will be of the Touch HD since the screen has a much larger resolution with alot more pixels.

According to official specs up to 440hrs. How true this is I'll have to wait and see but it's gotta be better than the 2 days with minimal usage I was getting from the Samsung.

From what I read, the battery life is roughly the same. You may have better signal lock though and that could affect battery life as well. I've heard however that the camera can't match the Omnia, but I'm curious to find out.

Good luck with your new device. Be sure to post us with how well you get on with it, as to your issues with the Omnia, but also as to the other aspects of the device. For those of us still with the Omnia, it might also be nice to hear if you find anything that you actually preferred with the Omnia over the Touch HD.

Thanks. Will do. Will post some comparison camera shots as soon as I get chance.

One thing I have noticed all over the world, and that is for sure, is that the Omnia has been given more publicity than it deserves, I know many bought it without even knowing it is a WM, and Samsung has a bad reputation when it comes to over heating and battery life, with all of their phones practically.

A buggy device, I can accept that, but only at the beginning, not after all this time and still the same problems, true most of them are gone, however, it does not do what is was advertised to do precisely, with many annoying stuff that made even the most expert one of us switch to the nearest device inline "BTW Omnia and HD, not much of a difference".

My Point is, Omnia is a good device, but people had very high expectations for it, and it failed big time like nothing failed before, well at least for the time being.

Imagine if they give us the interface of the new T*Omnia, with silverinbox fully integrated and most of the of the bugs are resolved! that will make all HD switchers cry at night... will I live to see that day? B) B) B) B)

I had to take my 1st one back, battery lasted 6 hours from full to flat, a 14 hour charge would not brin gthe green light on on the power button, so I presume it was faulty.

My second one lasts approx 2 days, which, yes it is much less than the standby time quoted, but twice as long as my N95 and I never used wifi or internet on that. I thought about getting a G1 android, the features look great, but I have heard that the battery on that can need charrging 2-3 times a day, not much good when working 12 hours without charging facilities, and I dont believe I should have to carry a spare battery around all the time.

All this talk about battery life surprises me. I would say 1-2 days on a WM device with a big screen is pretty good. I have been on WM devices for a while now, and just have got into the habit of charging the handsets overnight. It's no big deal really.

Also, it costs around £3-4 pounds for a spare battery on eBay.

All the great things on the Omnia make it a pleasure to use for me, and 1-2 days on my battery is just fine.

I like the battery life, I'm sending +- 10sms a day, 30 min browsing and 20 min calling, and some games, and it lasts 2,5 day!

Same with me, battery life is really good I think. Especially after upgrading to HJ7 ROM.
