Guest simonastro Posted January 29, 2003 Report Posted January 29, 2003 I have been using a siemens sl42e for the last year mostly because of the mp3 and dictaphone functions. I am a musician and can voice memo ideas as I think of them. Unfortunately the bit rate and sampling frequency are very poor so thats as far as one can go. I get my new spv tomorrow and I am really hoping that someone will develop an audio recorder application. With a 256mb SD card I could record 25 minutes at 44.1 khz and I can modify the handsfree to use a decent microphone. If anyone is thinking along the same lines I would be very interested to hear. I'm downloading the sdk at the moment but have no experience of programming and so probably wont get very far! cheers simonastro
Guest HelloDave Posted January 29, 2003 Report Posted January 29, 2003 Don't get your hopes up about the SPV's audio quality! The internal mic is pretty bad, and I wouldn't have thought the audio circuitry (A/D's etc) in the SPV is particularly high quality. Sound playback is adequate, but won't blow you away, and the standard voice recorder compresses audio very highly so it's useless for music (it only samples at 8KHz). If you just want listenable quality though it should be possible in theory; although i'm not sure how much access to the sound hardware you can get, and bearing in mind the SPV isn't that fast you might have to limit the sample rate to lower than 44.1KHz (If that's even supported). Realtime compression is certainly out of the question!
