As far as I know both parties have to have 3G enabled on thier phones for the video call option to be enabled. Unfortunately im in the US so i cant confirm that it works. B)
Guest massimo2001 Posted February 12, 2009 Report Posted February 12, 2009 (edited) Hi, As far as I know both parties have to have 3G enabled on thier phones for the video call option to be enabled. Unfortunately im in the US so i cant confirm that it works. :( Well, VZOChat does neither rely on the 3G network's video telephony functions nor SIP. I've been able to try it a few days ago with a friend. I used the mobile VZOChat client and he used VZOChat on his Win Vista computer - it worked flawlessly (in regards of the video transmission). Unfortunately on the Omnia, the mobile client still uses the 5 megapixel cam and not the front camera. The UI looks a bit scattered but hey, it's still beta and even though the Omnia is not on the supported devices list, technically it works astonishingly well. I see quite some potential there. I looked at the modification date of the nightly build files and was a bit disappointed as it is 11/25/2008. In case they continued development, they did not make it public. After several hours of searching, reading and trying I haven't found something comparable... either my search skills leave a lot to be desired or there is really not that much?! The Eyeball mobile client looks quite promising besides the fact that the client is just nowhere to be found. It seems it existed at the end of 2007 already (sry, German only) and here's another vendor link but it seems they don't want to sell it to end-users but to service providers, application developers, and device makers instead. An interesting open source project is minisip but it seems they never got past the lack of a GUI for Pocket PCs. Not sure the code would run on the WM6 platform though. Menneisyys did a review of the TiVi video phone software in May'08 (which also has the cam problem). Kapanga seems to be another video enabled mobile softphone client. All are SIP based. I wanted to try them but I'm afraid in Germany there's no SIP provider that allows video over SIP (for free). At least I couldn't find one. Even though mobile VZOChat is a step in the right direction, it's nowhere near the speech quality of Skype. I hope this thread encourages to more participation in the VZOChat beta testing. At least I'll send them a report :P Nevertheless, maybe this thread is worth to be tracked as well ^^ UPDATE 02/12/2009 4:20pm UTC: I just stumbled accross iVisit. Unfortunately the mobile client is just a 30-Day-Trial and will cost $99.95 per year afterwards B) . Besides, technically it's working really well it's the same with the camera (uses rear cam). UPDATE 02/12/2009 08:35pm UTC: And I found another one: Octro Talk 2.0 - It's a multi messenger and seems to provide video support for mobile to mobile only (they call it P2P video conferencing); haven't been able to test it yet. Guest plguzman Posted March 18, 2009 Report Posted March 18, 2009 Installed VZO Chat in my Omnia, but I don't get any video, neither me or the other party. The phone screen just goes black (the other party just see black too)
