Manilla 3D / Touch Flo 3D - Omnia

First of all, I recently updated an old thread, but felt I should start a new one.

I am confused why people claim that the Omnia can't deal with such a complex interface as HTC's Touch 3D. This is how I understand it :-

Unlike newer HTC devices, the Omnia has no graphical hardware support - however, lets face it, the things that TouchFlo 3D does can't be that taxing? It's not pumping thousands of polygons around everywhere!

The Omnia's processor is actually superior to most recent generation HTC phones and it does have a driver for Direct 3D (albeit software).

It uses D3D Driver (Intel XScale Optimized D3DM Software Driver). Can't a bit of clever jiggery pokery use these drivers and the better processor in leui of the ATI accel?

The Omnia also uses JBlend v.20080605 (Support 3D games), so why not an interface.

By no means do I have the skill to make this work, but I bet someone does. I'm just brainstorming....sorry - mind mapping.

My understanding is that the only thing holding us back from Manila 3D working is the appropriate 3D drivers. The omnia has an operational Direct3D driver. However for Manila 3D we need an Open GLES 3D driver - we currently do not have such a driver working properly for our hardward.

Oh I see, it's the age old Direct 3D Vs Open GL thingy! Can it not be run under Direct 3D then? Come on you clever programmers!

It's one of main advantages of HTC, the XDA-developers community is really big. Here, Paul and others I can't name right now are giving all they have, but Omnia needs more time for that.

Maybe if Samsung did encourage developers... Then I believe it's one of the best PDA Phones available on the market, in both elegance/looks and performance it packs inside.

Omnia was a very bold move, after iphone, to create a phone that runs WM and doesn't include a stylus (it's there but, you know, it's not actually for use IMHO). Almost no hardware buttons, all optimized for touch, all optimized for thumb... But, nevertheless, it's the community that makes it better. I wish Samsung sees that before it's too late.

Haha this is why bribes are fantastic. The main reason why this hasn't been done though is because of the clash between Direct3D and OpenGL if it was possible then wouldn't it have been done by now?

Perhaps in this case we're really need big support from Samsung if they want their OMNIA brand keep going they must continue released the updating software & Rom for omnia like HTC have done several years ago, that's why HTC have big fan and loyal user with their products. What do you think guys?

as far as i know, samsung never concerned with their customer needed especially with upgrading firmware into higher OS. you could see from all their smartphone product only stuck with their current OS. it's totally different with HTC product...even HTC himalaya which released almost 5 years ago still exist with WM6.5...:D

I don't know whether our Omnia i900 could stand as long as HTC Himalaya.

At least we have our great chefs in Modaco (Khuanchai, sector, qbus, shokka9, dddrko etc.), otherwise I would have sold my OMNIA already! :D

On topic, I tried M2D, MS3, PointUI2 and now Titanium 7. I find Titanium 7 to be quite handy as was M2D. Now to have Touch Flo 3D in our OMNIAs would be ideal but it's a hardware issue therefore I think it's a dream which won't come true.

You're right about HTC vs. Samsung in "customer satisfaction" and "after-sale support", in general. But I don't think the WM6.5 ROM for Himalaya is something that's released by HTC :D So, It's the user-base doing great things, not the company. Actually, HTC is starting to go down big-time on those fields, too...

Count me on that train already

It's very interesting thing with Omnia that, although the vendor doesn't encourage custom development for the device the community is adapting very fast. I don't remember that much ROM options back at the Jam times :( We're lucky...
