Hi all,

First off thanks to the many posters here who've offered invaluable advice and helped me make my Omnia even more enjoyable to use. For a start Paul's must have apps and general information about the official UK ROM update have been stupendously useful.

But despite all this there is one thing which still really bugs me, and that's writing text messages. More specifically being able to see what I've written as I'm writing them: the input area is tiny, at least by default. So when you write a new text message using the Transcriber, for example, you still get a tiny little input box with half the screen real estate just empty, and I then find myself scrolling excessively as I move up and down the text I've written so far. Even with the other input options there's often still some room available to make it slightly larger.

I've searched extensively for an improvement to this situation but can't find anything which makes me think either I'm not searching for the right stuff or I'm being an idiot and there's an easy method to fix this that I'm missing. Has anyone else found this a problem and are there any solutions?

Many thanks in advance!

Aztec.

I had/have the same issue but i managed to live trough it using Resco keyboard. It's a little smaller than the one from Samsung but it works better (at least for me).

I agree with what you say, I also find it difficult and frustrating replying to SMS's. Is there no other program that does the job better??

Its really only a problem in landscape...i'm not sure if there's a solution to this other than a new windows mobile. But there are other sms programs available like silverInbox(which btw, does not solve the problem)

Anthon is right Vito SMS Chat is fast and when you enter txt the area increases so you can see everything you wrote.

Sweet! Cheers for that, I've tried it and it's a nice looking app.

theflipside - that's just what I was looking for originally. Now my problem's having too many options to choose from! I'll try both and see which I prefer...

Thanks for the help guys.

Hey,

Sorry.... just got back to this post so sorry for not posting the screen shot as requested. Glad you gave it a whirl though and that it's working... saves me trying to figure out how to do screen shots hehe B)

As for vito chat-sms app and other similar things, I'm perhaps not the biggest fan of replacing the standard messaging application - don't know why to be honest but I've got this idea that the more things I add to replace existing standard features the less reliable the phone will become so I tend to stick to what comes with it in terms of the calendar and messaging aspect ... only thing I replaced was the Outlook Contact list with iContact - and that caused a few issues to start off with but seems to work alright now. Obviously I've got no issues adding completely new apps just not replacing what's build in... so can't comment on vito chat or so... I'm quite happy with the changes to the html file and it's been working fine since day one... obviously you'd need to do this after every hard reset but apart from that, it's a permanent 'hack'

Here is howto:

1. Open Total Commander

2. Browse to the "Windows" folder

3. Find the file: thread_sms.htm

4. Press to edit with the little notebook below from Total Commander

Pardon my ignorance, but what is total commander and where do you find it?

great tip.

didn't try with TC, but with notepad my file was write protected, couldn't modify it, nor rename it or even change its attributes..

anyway, I'll cook that into my next rom, no pb.

Guess I'm just as ignorant. I have the i910 and I have no idea what Total Commander is.

You and me both. And from what I am seeing i910 tweaks don't always work the same as for i900. Though they are both Windows...

I used Resco Explorer. Was a bit awkward. But managed to use that.

Just a heads up... I applied Oslec's mod (http://www.modaco.com/index.php?s=&sho...st&p=916987) and had it killed 2 birds with one stone:

1. It disabled Threading (which is one of the reasons that there isn't much room above the keyboard when creating a new sms or replying to one), and

2. It allows me to see the message I'm typing in both portait and lanscape mode no matter which keyboard you use.

I'm very happy with the SPB Keyboard and all the skins that it comes with (I got a great deal on it B) )
