Guest 200mpx Posted November 25, 2008 Report Posted November 25, 2008 (edited) Hey guys! I propose to keep in this topic tweaks specific to our device. Here is the first one that will let you have 10mb more of free Program memory B) : - Disabling of Samsung dialer: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\Phone\Skin] "Enabled"=dword:1, you should change to 0 and reboot your Omnia So you will have a standart windows dialer without any screen lock thing from Samsung and app. 10mb more of free memory. The only thing you can regret is the vibro on dialer buttons Thanks to Senator for this tweak! Edited November 25, 2008 by 200mpx

The only thing you can regret is the vibro on dialer buttons Thanks to Senator for this tweak! Excellent! I got more than 10 Mb of free RAM! I think that this thread can also be a compilation of what have already been said before. I want to add 2 concerning GPS: 1. Disabling GPS debug for quick fixing: 1. Go to Settings > System > Enhanced GPS and set both settings to "Disable" 2. Go to your device's registry, and see the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\GPS Intermediate Driver 3. Change the following string values to nothing (don't delete them, just edit them and clear the value): CurrentLogFile (originally \GPSID_log.txt) OldLogFile (originally \GPSID_log.bak) 4. Soft-reset your device 5. With File Explorer, go to My Device, and delete the two GPSID_log files you see, and the file named xtra. If you don't soft-reset, you will not be able to delete some of them. 6. Check again the registry setting. Sometimes in rare cases it may revert the settings back - but that's a general WM problem. After this, if you start your navigation software under clear sky, you can get a fix in a coulpe of minutes, without the use of XTRA, or any other data source, than pure native GPS satellites. Original post : http://www.modaco.com/content/i900-omnia-h...t-xtra-enabled/ 2. Chaning the XTRA server address for better XTRA file: Well, my server address for XTRA is set to : xtra1.gpsonextra.net. I changed it because my phone provider only lets me surf to 80, 8080 and 443, so the original address is blocked. Can you verify yours at HKLM\ Software\Samsung\RIL\GPS? Guest 3shirts Posted November 25, 2008 Report Posted November 25, 2008 Useful tweak. I like the samsung dialer and vibro buttons but if I have any memory problems its good to know I can save 10mb with this.
Guest 200mpx Posted November 25, 2008 Report Posted November 25, 2008 Hi, I use CERRegEditor and when I'm trying to change the value I get "Access denied" message. Any ideas? I use Resco Explorer with registry plugin and it is ok. You can also use SKTools to change registry value.
Guest stevei0742 Posted November 25, 2008 Report Posted November 25, 2008 Hi, I use CERRegEditor and when I'm trying to change the value I get "Access denied" message. Any ideas? Look under tools menu and select "unlock registry" now your good to go Steve.

Guest NickCy Posted November 26, 2008 Report Posted November 26, 2008 Thanks for the dialer tip, don't really need the Samsung dialer as I use Fonex B)

I like the samsung dialer and vibro buttons but if I have any memory problems its good to know I can save 10mb with this. In my Omnia I got a 16Gb mem card + 4GB of inbuilt memory. Why would 10mb make any difference? You guys must really exploit your poor Omnias uh? Edited November 27, 2008 by vincentvan

You guys must really exploit your poor Omnias uh? This is not 10mb of storage space that we have enough with Omnia but Program memory that is used to run programs and applications. And it is always good to have more of this kind of memory B)

You guys must really exploit your poor Omnias uh? And by the way, I newer knew an option for 4GB builtin memory with Omnia. I have mine with 16GB storage (My Storage) and 8GB memory card (microsdhc). But the usable builtin storage is below 60mb with stock Samsung rom (right after a hard-reset). Two options: 1) You're using a chinese version B) 2) There's something wrong with either the numbers or the names

Guest 3shirts Posted November 27, 2008 Report Posted November 27, 2008 Great one! I turned off threaded SMS cos the lack of space annoyed me. I can turn it back on now!
Guest 200mpx Posted November 27, 2008 Report Posted November 27, 2008 You can turn off the pop up of keyboard every time there is an input space on today: [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Sip] "TurnOffAutoDeploy"=dword:1
Guest 200mpx Posted November 27, 2008 Report Posted November 27, 2008 You can go with brightness of you device lower than the settings allow you, but you need an app that can handle brightness of omnia because the standard samsung settings of brightness will not see the lowest level. I know at least 2 apps that can do it - Indibar3 (http://www.apoxsoft.com/) and MVBacklight (http://4pda.ru/forum/index.php?showtopic=25964 Only in Russian) in HKCU\ControlPanel\Backlight we change Brightness to 0

Now I understand why some minutes ago when I downloaded " FtouchSL" and then installed on the omnia , I had 3 options instead of 2: my storage; my card; and "device". I installed it on "Device" because it was the standard setting. I hope I did the right thing. Or what? So, basically you are telling me that there are 3 memories on the Omnia: your card, the 16GB of "my storage", and this "Device" place, in which to put programs and apps; is that right? Now please tell me : where should I place "MS Voice Command"? In "Device" again? Is there enough space? What if I would put it in "my storage" for exemple? Would that spell tragedy? Thanks for all your help guys , is very much apreciated and you will all be remembered in my evening prayers, but don't laugh at me :this is my first win mob. device (i'm an ex, deluded, symbian faithful) and I have had it for less than 2 weeks. And I discovered that there really is a lot to learn compared to the few tricks one needs to get his symbian gizmo to work properly. Have some mercy.

Guest 200mpx Posted November 28, 2008 Report Posted November 28, 2008 Would this turn off the dialer completely so I could use something like iContact to replace it? Samsung Dialer - yes, it will be completely off, but there will be the standard windows dialer instead.

You have only two kind of memory on your device - Storage kind of memory, that stores every bit of information on your device (music, docs, programs, photo etc). This memory could be built-in like our My Storage and Device, it could be removable like Storage card but it is the same type of memory. And there is another type of memory - Program memory (RAM), that allows the ppc to use and run programs. You was right to install FTouchSL in main memory of device (Device) because it is the fastest memory on ppc. If you have enough space I think (not sure - I never use Voice Commander) you should install it in main memory too.
Guest vincentvan Posted November 28, 2008 Report Posted November 28, 2008 If you have enough space I think (not sure - I never use Voice Commander) you should install it in main memory too. Thanks 200mpx I really appreciate your help. This is the way one earns his place in heaven. You write that you do not use Voice Command, is it because you just don't need voice dialing or because you (or anyone else ) know of a better equivalent program? Voice dialling is essential to me as I spend most of my life driving a car and I still can't belive that Samsung did'nt include such a standard feature in the Omnia. Anyway, do you know of a better alternative to MS VC for the Omnia?
Guest 200mpx Posted November 29, 2008 Report Posted November 29, 2008 I'm not usind VC at all B) I can not verify this info but it seems that there is a version of MVC that works with Omnia: http://samsung-omnia.handster.com/programs...voice%20command
