GPS without secondary app (gps gate etc.)?

I'm in buying new mobile and Omnia is one of the options. My friend had some issues about making gps sw workung properly. So question for you guys is do I need to install gps gate for my navy sw? I'm using tomtom, navigon and garmin. Does anyone know if I need it why is that so? I think this is the first phone after historical qtek 2020i who needs extra gps sw for working properly.
