Guest jokerz1 Posted November 27, 2008 Report Posted November 27, 2008 I am hoping someone out there may be able to help.... I have an Omnia, Vodafone branded. Owing to all of the problems with it, I attempted to flash the firmware, following the instructions given on numerous threads on this site (which were all very good I must say). All went well until the phone went to re-boot when it got stuck on the Omnia boot logo. It would go no further. I could not get it recognised by the PC, so was unable to flash again. To cut a long story short(ish), it has been to an official Samsung repiar centre who sent it to SBE Ltd. I was initially told it had been repaired, but then told that they would not repair it under warranty as apparently someone had attempted to repair it in the past so the warranty was void. Well, no-one has ever attempted to repair it in the past, but despite my protests about this, they refuse to do further work on it. They say that a flex connector had been broken - from a firmware upgrade..??!! Anyway, the phone is now back. I was expecting it to be the same as when I sent it away - ie stuck on the boot logo. However, it is working. Albeit in german (which I am hoping to change in the system settings somehow - anyone help?). And the screen has a yellow tinge! B) Anyone able to offer any form of assistance?? Thanks
Guest Paul (MVP) Posted November 27, 2008 Report Posted November 27, 2008 Does the IMEI on the phone match the one on the box? i.e. is it your phone? P
Guest Mysterious Stranger Posted November 27, 2008 Report Posted November 27, 2008 [sBE have form for this kind of stunt. Do a search. They used to be an IMATE repair agent and the stock excuse for not repairing handsets was 'water damage'. Ask for proof, and ask them to provide a written statement how the warranty has been voided, then say you'd like your phone back as samsung's engineers want to examine it etc as you've taken it up with them directly. Incorrect flashing of *dead* phones is very hard to prove without expensive tools / techniques however much they may *suspect* it. For a £400 handset they aren't going to do forensic investigation if you stand your ground. M.S p.s stick to 1 thread otherwise the mods will delete them all...
Guest Mysterious Stranger Posted November 27, 2008 Report Posted November 27, 2008 Does the IMEI on the phone match the one on the box? i.e. is it your phone? P I'd agree with Paul, check it's your phone as flashing into German is a bit odd. Yellow tinge may be from a broken or loose ribbon. The damage may have been caused by SBE - they are numptys - check other threads for issues they have caused. M.S
Guest jokerz1 Posted November 27, 2008 Report Posted November 27, 2008 Thanks for your quick replies! I will check the IMEI of the phone with the one on the box to make sure it is my phone. SBE sound like a fine company to deal with! Whatever has happened, something is certainly amiss. P.S. I am really sorry about the duplicate posts - this site has been playing up a little for me today so no idea what happended there - could a mod please delete the duplicates to leave this one as the running one please?? Thanks again
Guest Paul (MVP) Posted November 27, 2008 Report Posted November 27, 2008 Deleted other thread. Also quite worried as my Omnia is with SBE at the moment! P
Guest jokerz1 Posted November 27, 2008 Report Posted November 27, 2008 Deleted other thread. Also quite worried as my Omnia is with SBE at the moment! P Hopefully you may have more luck! If it is my phone, will I need to re-flash the firmware as it is German, or will I be able to change the language of it without having to do so?
Guest Mysterious Stranger Posted November 27, 2008 Report Posted November 27, 2008 Deleted other thread. Also quite worried as my Omnia is with SBE at the moment! P Don't take this the wrong way, but if anyone else's gets screwed up by them I hope it's yours... B) No malice intended, but who'd you think Samsung are going to listen to against the word of SBE? Who can mount an effective campaign via these boards to educate people to take photos etc of their handsets before sending them? Who can, ultimatley, convince Samsung UK there are many, many other repairers who can handle their UK repairs?.... Paul[MVP] that's who! And I don't even have an Omnia. If I did, i would send it to a friend in Brussels to return to a european service centre on my behalf rather than torture myself sending it to SBE. I await a post either way when you get it back...
