Guest samjuan Posted December 1, 2008 Report Posted December 1, 2008 looks like Samsung has been busy lately providing ROM upgrades for free through their website: http://www.samsungmobile.com/support/omnia/index.jsp they have added many countries and languages and I believe they are going on the right track... they are not yet all working, but seems that it is uploading or somthing! B) good news... B) B)
Guest Sasu85 Posted December 1, 2008 Report Posted December 1, 2008 I hope that a new rom available on samsung mobile official sit will be less dangerous about brick... I hope in a new bootloader!
Guest melvynadam Posted December 5, 2008 Report Posted December 5, 2008 They removed it again. That's insane! I was about to reply and say "you're wrong" because I only bookmarked this site two hours ago but it seems they've taken it down since. Hope it wasn't personal B)
Guest Francis LUONG Posted December 5, 2008 Report Posted December 5, 2008 They removed it again. it's working man B) B)
Guest Jokes On You Posted December 5, 2008 Report Posted December 5, 2008 it's working man B) B) What countries were added? It still looks the same to me B)
Guest tux1 Posted December 5, 2008 Report Posted December 5, 2008 What countries were added? It still looks the same to me B) Just went to the site to check 30 seconds ago. Same old small lists of sites only B)
Guest Rubber Ducky Posted December 7, 2008 Report Posted December 7, 2008 There was an updated list the moment this thread started (there were a lot of coutries added to the list, even Netherlands). But after checking it again a day later the list was short again. Maybe they were just mocking us???

This is what I have been waiting for - so tempting to blow the warranty and go for a custom rom - i´ll hang on another week see if the list gets populated

B) good news... B) B) I don't get it! At last there is an "official" ROM for the UK but I can't get to it as Samsung say that the Rom I am using at present is "incorrect" (DZHH3)! No matter which ROM ID I enter, the site says that it is incorrect and won't let me through! Are any of the ROMs accessible from this site the same as the new UK ROM? What are the improvements? Thanks

Guest kabelnet Posted December 7, 2008 Report Posted December 7, 2008 Please see the source of the WEB-page. (View->source) It is very simple. Find the routine 'check'. There you can see the accepted values. Ex. UK-> MS and AC (MSHH1 is accepted) After that it is possible to download the rom (MSHJ1). If you use AC, the downloadable rom is ACHJ2.

Does anyone have a view as to if/whether the official UK download is an improvement (desperate for improved battery life!)? Are there any new features? Thanks

Does that mean that even though my actual rom version is XJHH1 - if i enter MSHH1 it will forward me an english rom to download and flash the currently Spanish PDA side of the OS? Is there likely to be any issues on that score? There is a Spanish upgrade option open to me but i really want to get the OS in ENGLISH. (I´m a bit confused as there is the PDA ROM HH1 and the OS WM6.5- are they the same things? )

So, I managed to get the official UK upgrade but I now have the dreaded "incorrect software version" message and the "fix" in this forum doesn't work - the phone doesn't re-set after selecting the Singapore option. Is there any other way of getting the upgrade to recognise my device? TIA
Guest finaldestiny Posted December 8, 2008 Report Posted December 8, 2008 But which one!! All I want is stability and better battery life - I haven't got a clue as to how to decide which is the best "general" ROM B) Well, I generally just go with the latest official ROM for the 'best' in terms of performance, battery etc. I figure even if in some ways a ROM is a step backwards Samsung must've made that choice for a reason. The latest official one right now as far as i know is HK1, there's an HK2 floating around in various forms but from what i've been hearing its supposed to be buggy (because it's a leak, not an official release) Passoa's M2D04 is using the HK1 rom, so i'm utilizing that until he decides to upgrade it to HK2. IF I could find an official HK1 rom though, I wouldn't mind using it. But i have no idea how to get that from the samsung updater website B) Please see the source of the WEB-page. Guest melvynadam Posted December 9, 2008 Report Posted December 9, 2008 I figure even if in some ways a ROM is a step backwards Samsung must've made that choice for a reason. Just curious but am I right in thinking you've never worked in software development? B)
Guest finaldestiny Posted December 9, 2008 Report Posted December 9, 2008 Just curious but am I right in thinking you've never worked in software development? B) Work...no... I still stand by my comment though, but i'm curious to know why you made that statement. B)
Guest DavidC Posted December 10, 2008 Report Posted December 10, 2008 Does the MSHJ1 ROM on the site have any Network branding or is it a generic Samsung Rom?
Guest tomlemes Posted December 11, 2008 Report Posted December 11, 2008 Work...no... I still stand by my comment though, but i'm curious to know why you made that statement. Ooh ooh, I can explain! Because in the real world many software releases are just terrible and a backward step is sometimes just that. Ever wondered why each new release of Windows is almost instantly followed by Service Pack 1, Service Pack 2, etc?. Or why many people are avoiding Vista and waiting for the next Windows incarnation (and MS are trying to rush one out in double quick time)? Put simply each release is not necessarily better than the one that went before. It's sweet that you'd trust Samsung to have your best interests at heart, but in reality you could end up regretting it. I'm not picking on Samsung (or MS) there - we all do it.
Guest spanomnia Posted December 12, 2008 Report Posted December 12, 2008 What does the MS and AC bit mean - can I flash my JKHH1 with a MS or an AC suffixed rom?
Guest melvynadam Posted December 18, 2008 Report Posted December 18, 2008 My Omnia arrived 1hr ago and I want to ensure I have an up-to-date Samsung (official) ROM on the device before I start installing my apps and downloading all the data from my Exchange server. I went to the following page: http://www.samsungmobile.com/support/omnia/index.jsp My version shows the same as the example on their screenshot: DZHH3 but as was noted in this discussion thread, they call this "incorrect". I also don't understand what the MS and AC part of the recommended solution means. What is the difference between them?

What is the difference between them? mate, you have three ways of upgrading your Omnia, one is download one of Secany's "that is official, unaltered, however not released to the public", keep waiting for the SS Omnia site, or better go to your service center and ask them to do the upgrade for you "you can ask Secany what is the latest rom for your region, I am not sure if he will answer though, but maybe you'll get lucky". The always safest way is to do it through the service center, and be aware, flashing on your own can be really addicted. Edited December 19, 2008 by samjuan

I believe from reading other posts MS = No Branding AC = Vodafone Branding Roms on offer here have no branding and free up a lot more apps that operators have hidden. I debranded from Vodafone and am currently on HK2 which is proving to be extremly stable. Edited December 19, 2008 by Motofone
