No luck on my end yet. I can use WMWiFiRouter to set up a wifi network, and my PC can connect to my mobile phone/network and I can also ping it and see the activity on the phone however I cannot access the internet. It's like the WiFi isn't communicating with the Dial up broadband. Any suggestions of resolving this, I've got a lot of time into this but this is as far as I've gotten. Thanks,

Matt

I have been able to easily connect. I have VZW's i910 and originally i had a problem with only being able to connect "locally". but once i turned off the WEP and just put it on "none, Testing" i was able to get it working. i am able to easily connect and get the internet running at a fairly fast speed (will do some speed tests to see exactly How fast soon). does anyone know why it would possibly not be working with wep, only with no encryption?

also let me know if i can help anyone with anything or answer any questions on how mine is set up. and please be specific, ie: what usb connection type etc...

krmark, you must have something misconfigured. The only thing this does is enables Verizon's tethering. Do not attempt this at home.

I couldn't get it to work any other way. And I couldn't get USB cable tethering to work with VZ Access Manager no matter what or how I tried, short of calling Verizon, which I wasn't going to do. Everything was/is in fact configured properly. If I do the above the WiFi works, if I don't do it then it doesn't work. And VZ Access Manager doesn't work no matter what I do.

I got the USB tether mode to work using VZAccess, only after troubleshooting with Verizon by phone and discovering that my first phone had a bad modem. After replacing the phone, I got VZAccess to work. But when I stop tethering, back in my office, and want to use the USB for Activesync, my device is not recognized. Seems as though I have to reinstall the drivers when I want to switch between VZAccess and Activesync. Too cumbersome. Anyone else have this trouble?

Verizon is really making me upset.

First they disable the gps, and now i find out you cant tether the phone with your pc.

I know tethering is possible, but i heard they want to charge you to do this...

I cant believe verizon is this greedy. This makes me want to take the phone back!

Is there a way to hack this so we can tether? If i cant get the gps or tethering to work before the end of this month, im taking the phone back.

Update: If you want to connect to the internet via usb only, install ICSinstall.cab (found on page 3) and run the program. Thats it!

Update: Here is the solution if you want to USE WIFI.(go to page 3 for the files), thanks to everyone who contributed to this thread.

I have a dumb question. Someone earlier in the thread mentioned using pdanet as another way of tethering. Would pdanet bypass the need to pay the extra $15 to verizon or is it just an interface to make things easier? If it does bypass it, what would be recommended, the method described here or pdanet?

Thanks.

PDANet is awesome. I use it, and it doesn't cause all the issues with disappearing wifi buttons, loss of activesync, etc.

And to answer your question, no monthly fees from the evil Verizon.

Am I confused or is Verizon pulling my Larry? They stated that I must have a data plan with the Omnia I910. Which included unlimited data, thus internet from anywhere. Is this not the case?

Just wanted to say thank you for this fix. I am posting this driving on I5 to Salem, OR tethering through my Omnia using USB. I love the USB option a lot more than WIFI or bluetooth, it keeps the phone charged

Thanks.

PS. I told my friend (who has iPhone) about this and he is switching to Samsung Omnia and Verizon.

There's your problem. VZAM f*cks up everything. IIRC from other threads, even running it once does some changes to the phone (probably in the registry) that really give WMWifiRouter and ICS fits. Gotta hard-reset to get away from Verizon-extortion tethering.

Also, don't be trying to tether the PC end by running the VZAM application on the PC. This will definitely not work with WMWR. Completely uninstall that bucket of effluent and simply connect to your phone via ordinary Windows Networking ad-hoc mode.

That's how this get-around-Verizon solution is supposed to work. The VZAM solution has a bunch of sneaky, pernicious protocol crapola in it so that V can detect when you are moving data over the network because of tethering, rather than just watching pornos directly on you phone B)

Incorrect. You can not buy service from Verizon for an Omnia without a dataplan.

You are confused, no thanks to the postings here.

You are correct -- you must have a dataplan. This is not optional with PDA phones on the Verizon network.

What is confusing people is there is a seperate, optional, laptop tethering plan. In theory, you must pay this extra money to use your phone for acting as a NAT router to provide internet access for a client computer. In practice, you are doing nothing different -- including in terms of actual network traffic -- than you do with your phone by itself (the vast majority of people just do the same things on their laptop as with the phone, from a data perspective -- email, surf the web, stream music and video, etc.; no number of customers of any consequence are running bittorrent clients, web servers, etc.).

So this is really just more sleazy business model crap from Verizon trying to squeeze blood from a turnip. They do what they can to defeat working around having to buy, and use, their VZ Access sham^H^H^H^Hservice. That's why the ICS app is missing on the V version of the Omnia.

Thankfully, this issue is about the easiest of them all to work around, as it requires no intel into the hardware or drivers for the Omnia. Basic application programming, based on standard network protocols and interfaces does the trick. So, voila! We have WMWifiRouter.

BTW, gang, go and cough up the measly $30 for the official, latest and greatest version of the app. It has a lot of nice features compared to the now stale free version, is supported, and most important of all, supports all the work these guys have and continue to put in to making this great solution available to us.

I have no connection with Morose Software at all. Just a happy, satisfied customer.

I'm trying to tether to a powerbook g4 just over USB and when I hit connect the status in the Internet share utility goes to :Check USB cable connection.

I tried both .cab files linked in this thread.

Anyone else encounter this problem?

Hi,

I'm new this forum, just got my i910 and was excited to hook up through the internet with my phone, without paying the tether fee. I am fine with using the USB connection but I cant get that to work. I installed the .cab file as per the instructions, but I am unable to connect to the internet. I'm using Win XP pro. When I connect the phone, I hear windows 'ding' as the device is detected, but in device manager the i910 shows up as an unknown device. When I run the Internet Sharing app and hit Connect, the status changes to "Check USB Cable connection" and i910 is still listed as an unknown device in device manager (on my laptop). Am I missing some kind of drivers for the phone?

Please help as I am relying on this to work or else I will be forced to sell the omnia and go crawling back to sprint for EVDO ...

Thanks in advance!

Dan

Yes indeed. PDAnet eliminates the need to cough up more money to vzw, and allows you to tether your phone.

My phone doesn't tether with my work computer either...probably because of the firewall and all the security we have here...it's crazy

Ok, I've got an update.. I was able to get online through the wifi configuration as per instructions. USB still does not work.

I also noticed that when I make or receive a phone call, my internet is interrupted. Anyone else notice that? That could be a potential problem for me, as I sometimes work from home and will get plenty of calls while online. Anyone know how to fix this??

And one final question - how would I hook the phone up to my PC via bluetooth? I've got a tiny bluetooth dongle that plugs into my PCs USB port and I can connect it to my omnia, but I'm not sure how to tell my PC to use the omnia to get online. That internet connection sharing utility on the omnia does not have bluetooth as an option.

2 things, a statement and a question.

Statement. "My Ability to turn off Wireless has been turned off" "I can't turn off my wireless in my widget menu"

Set power options to "enable Wi-Fi power saving mode"

in WMWIFIRouter go to options, Crash clean-up.

perform a Soft reset or two. (Took me 2 soft resets)

Question. Why does Tethered mode lag my computer?

What i mean is, if i have my phone online tethered, and i start something that is resource intensive (FFXi in my case) i get super laggy. When i am connected through WiFi i have no issues. Reason i ask is i would like to be able to not run the battery down when i am using it. When i am traveling, i would prefer to only have to carry one cable, not a computer connection and a power connection.

Computer is a 2.5gh Quad core

6gb Ram, Vista x64

First post,

I've been lurking most this thread for quite a while now and I cannot tell you guys how eager I am to finally get the Omnia and get this feature, my question is:

Will just the usb part work with a Macbook?

And, how long of browsing could you get out of using the wifi since I read it drains battery and might fry the phone?

Can't.

It's a limitation of CDMA EvDO Rev. 0 and A. No simultaneous voice and data.

You'll have to wait either for AT&T or another GSM carrier to bring the Omnia to market, or wait for 4G from Verizon.

Odd... mine does. Check again for "Bluetooth PAN".

That would be correct. the $30/mo plan allows your phone to access data, it's an additional $15/MO to tether. This gets around that.

I have the 29.99 data plan AND the 5GB Broadband access..............am I safe dropping the Broadband using the wifi router program?

install microsoft active sync either from the cd that came with your phone, or go to microsoft and d/l directly. active sync supplies the drivers so your pc will recognize that "unknown device"

invest in either wmwifi or pdanet and save the $15/mo for another 30 pack of cold ones B)
