Hi

I've had my Omnia for a few months now. Direct from Orange and wasnt Orange branded. I recently had to have a replacement and it is now complately branded and shite..I've phoned orange and they have basically just said thats how it is now even though its changed for the worst.. Now they have said i can have a replacement phone - which i dont want, i just want my decent omnia back.

Can you remove the branding somehow?

i've bought four Omnia's for here at work now. All from orange and the first thing I do with them now, before even registering their SIM, is to flash the rom. There are several ROMs which you can find out about in the sub forum http://www.modaco.com/category/368/i900-om...rom-discussion/

Currently I'm using this one though http://www.modaco.com/content/i900-omnia-r...pdate-03-11-08/

hmmm ... maybe not then B)

however it is quite easy if you have good access to a windows xp PC. this is what i did yesterday.

1. download omnia modem drivers from samsung and install on xp pc

2. download microsoft active sync and install on xp pc

3. plug in omnia and let it do it's install stuff (if not already installed)

4. download paul's "cooked" rom, extract and run the exe

5. reboot the omnia while it's still connected via the usb cable (this will trigger the rom installer to recognise there's a device attached)

6. click start on paul's rom installer

7. wait and let it run it's course and auto reboot a couple of times

you will end up with a much cleaner and more efficient omnia will all the orange branding removed.

Where do i get the modem driver highlighted in bold?

sorry i can't exactly remember. it's most likely from the samsung web site, but that's a nightmare to navigate around. also i think it was a generic driver.

you could poke around and have a look for the download on the official site, or take the copy i have http://www.chunkylover.co.uk/SamsungModem_xp.zip

the whole process is really quite easy. i'm only a bit cautious about recommending that you do it because basically things can go wrong. even though it's rare for things to go wrong, if they do then that are often terminal to the device and puts it in a state that we technically call "bricked" i.e. it does about as much as a brick does. as i say, it is rare for things to go wrong but obviously not doing this would mean no chance of your handset being bricked whereas upgrading your rom would give some small chance of being bricked.

as i didn't have any problems with all my orange handsets and didn't have to do any thing special to get it working, i would be fairly happy that the same would apply to yours if you were to upgrade the rom.

take a read of the paul's upgrade rom thread i linked and just see if you feel comfortable with it yourself B) you never know, if you find his was an easy enough process you might be interested and confident to move onto the more flashy roms provided in that forum B)

you can always get to step 6 where the "start" button on the application is active and see how you feel. up to this point, you won't have actually done anything at all that would modify your computer (well a couple of drivers) or the omnia itself.

Ive had the same problem... had some idiot from Orange telling me they were all the same... no matter how hard i tried to explain that my origional "Sealed" phone was NOT branded to orange... but the 2 replacements i have had since have been... ive tried twice on these handsets to debrand them... got to step one from the official samsung update and its told me to turn on the device manually... and the phone has been dead... any ideas? due to recieve a new one tomorrow... oranges "new look" looks S**t im all new to this so i need an idiot proof guide... obviously a idiot as i have "bricked" two phones... Many Thanks
