Strange problem with storage.

Hi, just got my replacement Omnia from the service provider after 3 weeks waiting.

I can't use the USB cable to connect my phone to PC to access either the My Storage or Storage card. Tried two USB cables on two different computers, all gave me some error while it's connected, 'unknow device'.

I flashed two different ROMs and it all gave me the same problem, I even installed WM5torage 1.73, same story. The Disk5 External storage is read only mode and grey out I can not de-select. Storage card mode not working (Disk 4, same error as above).

Storage card can be read on the phone (the Garmin preloaded on it is working properly), but after I put it into the adarpter and use card reader it won't pick up the card at all (8G storage card, Sandisk SDHC). I use BT to move files from PC to the phone and it automatically store in My storage (8g on the phone), but when I install these programs, although I select install on My storage, it will auto install into the program space in the phone (XX MB instead of that 8GB place), program can be installed on Storage card.

Any idea? I had already use the phone to reset/format both places (card and onboard).

I am suspecting the service provider gave me a Samsung Re-furbished phone, one of those went back for repair. All content/phone looked new but the Samsung security sticker has two layers, one on top of the other, the top one is intact but the bottom one is broken.

I had already raised this issue with SP and they said it's a new phone, I am flying to overseas for holiday on Saturday this week and from previous experience this SP took 5 days to get their courier to pickup my previous OBF Omnia, I don't think I have that much of chance to get another replacement (if they warrant, probably won't)......

In answer to your USB question. did you download the drivers for the phone from the samsung website? Or install from the CD? Or have active sync installed?

What driver for the phone? I don't know there's any driver for Omnia besides the USB/CDMA driver which I had installed before and without it I could not even flash the ROMs can I?

Active Sync 4.5 installed long time ago, I was using another WM device before Omnia so I think I know what's required to connect phone to PC via USB.

Active Sync only managed to sync once (but could not complete sync before I switch off the phone and pull the USB, just refreshing there forever) with this new phone.

I have tried another 1g Sandisk card, it can be recognized by the phone and card reader, but not through USB via mass storage.

My SP will ask their sales department to follow up and contact me shortly, as what I am experiencing is a refurbished replacement phone but not a new Omnia problem.

there are some generic usb drivers for the omnia which were intended for xp (although they've installed fine on my vista machines, but i'm not sure they're actually required). they're on the samsung site somewhere, they may help, here's a link to the set i've been using if you want http://www.chunkylover.co.uk/SamsungModem_xp.zip - these are what poster #2 is talking about - sometimes they help although they shouldn't be necessary.

when i first got mine i couldn't get it connected to my vista machines, i found that going into the connection settings, looking at the USBtoPC option and removing the tick from Enable advanced network functionality fixed that problem. However, just checking mine now, after many rom flashes and rebuilds, that option is checked and it's working fine.

I assume you have gone into the USB connection mode and not got something daft set like in mass storage mode only look at "My Storage".

Got this driver and installed already. After the computer prompt problem with device, unknown USB, I tried to update this unknown device's driver by pointing the driver path to the unzipped USB driver, but it's not this driver.

The MITs Wizard 3 from the Samsung CD also can't connect to the phone.... Only way is Bluetooth file from PC to phone and copy it between the My storage and Storage cards.
