Best way to transfer BIG files via Wi-Fi???

I just got my US Verizon version of the Omnia a couple days ago. ActiveSync no longer supports Wi-Fi and Bluetooth is way too slow to transfer TV Shows and Movies from my Vista laptop to the 8GB of storage on the phone.

So what's the best software for transferring large files over Wi-Fi between my laptop and the Omnia??

NOTE: I tried using the RDP client and while I can connect to my laptop and I can see the folder "Files on i910" I get a permissions error if I click on it to try and show the folder's contents. Hopefully there's a simpler, easier solution to just transfer a file!!!

There is...on an unlocked omnia anyway.

You can use utilize the phone's 8gb memory just as a flash drive, as the phone supports USB MASS Storage mode, which is much faster than the active synchronization. You just need to change the connection mode from active sync to mass storage and it should transfer big files as easily as dragging and dropping a file onto a flash drive.

But not sure if verizon has disabled such a feature on their locked phones so, it may or may not be possible to just do that.

Actually VzW has not disabled this. You can go to settings and USB connections and choose Storage Card and just transfer files using the USB cable. But I would like to know how I can use Either Active sync any other wifi way to transfer files. Its the ease factor

aurkachra, you are a GENIUS. Changing the USB connections worked great!!! Using my Omnia like a flash drive is a big feature IMHO. Thanks.

Glad you got it sorted out mate.

@ aurkachra

There's probably an easy way using that RDP client Dblocker was talking about, just need to work on that permissions glitch. Also there are some other programs that I used to have that can turn your phone into a wireless hotspot. So i guess once you join the wireless network on your laptop you can share files, active synchronizing might be a bit more difficult though.

Alternatively you should be able to create an adhoc network with your laptop, which should allow sharing of files between the two devices, but i've never tried that (an even adhoc-ing between two laptops has always been a hit and miss situation for me)

LOL, the question is using wifi, but ended up using cable

anyway omnia can map network shared drive /folder / files. We can actually cut and paste those files from PC to Omnia or vice versa via wifi.

And not just that we can stream those media files directly from PC to Omnia 's screen wirelessly.

If you have TV out cable connected to LCD TV, you can stream any media files from your PC to the TV via wifi using omnia

hey bro,

speaking of maping the net, I tried long time ago, but can't work it out.

here is my solution to transfer files with wifi.

software needed on ppc end: mocha FTP server

on Pc end, any ftp software

One can simply browse the files on the PPC by pc, both upload/download file, rename file, create new folder, everything can be done on a ftp server can be done here.

any further info, plz let me konw

How are you able to transfer files from lapton to phone? I'm using XP and the phone doesn't seem to want to accept the files from a laptop via bluetooth

for bluetooth you just run ActiveSync via bluetooth from your phone. When Windows Mobile Device Center opens on the laptop you can see the phone's files. So then just copy files from laptop to the phone's folders.

But it's pretty slow, so I prefer the USB transfer option.

just use network folder plugin

it lets you add a "network" folder with all shared drives in root, so it can be used in any program then.

I've connected via BT to the phone OK, but my PC doesn't see \My Storage\ and I haven't installed a microSD chip for additional storage. So I can't transfer files to the My Storage area... Am I missing something?
