Guest Posted December 6, 2008 Report Posted December 6, 2008 Getting full phone signal but only G symbol showing. I am in a very good 3G area, but omnia never gets a 3G lock. Tried changing band mode and just end up with no signal and occasionally a 3G connection. Any ideas?
Guest smilepak Posted December 7, 2008 Report Posted December 7, 2008 3G signal are different from each other, esp between US and EU and APAC. You could get a quad band phone and travel globally, but 3G signal is a whole different story. Look at the band support by the phone. I think tmobile 3G uses 850/2100 band or was it 850/1900 band.
Guest choihyun Posted December 7, 2008 Report Posted December 7, 2008 i believe T-mobile has 1700 i thought our omnias couldn't connect to US 3g. i have t-mobile and live in houston, tx and looking at the t-mobile site it tells me houston is covered with 3g only problem is that the bands are different but if someone finds away around this that would be awesome. i think they were talking about it on another post http://www.modaco.com/content-page/271930/...he-us/page/140/

As your showing the red cross, I can only guess your living in England (as its the English flag) and that you are trying to connect in the UK. Have you tried your sim in another 3g capable phone in the same location? If it connects in the other phone as 3g then, tripple check your have enabled 3g (try to force it and do a network search)), if it still won't connect in your phone then return your Omnia. If it won't 3g connect in someone elses phone then ring T-mob (150 if I remember right?) and ask them if you have 3g enabled. It shouldn't be disabled but you never know what happens at datacenters! Can you also have a look in the Version app and let us know what you have in the My Device->Version-> PDA & Phone values. You may have a REALLY old OS/Radio and this could be cured by a firmware upgrade.

I'm currently on DXHJ1, tried many ROM's and signal doesn't change much between them. I found the problem seems to be more obvious inside buildings. My walls in my house are very thin, but I can never seem to get a lock at home. Outside The 3G connection improves slightly, but it seems to be as hit and miss as the GPS connnection :S. Thanks for the ideas guys, hopefully there is a solution!

If you are on J1 and J1 then I can only guess the 3g radio is damaged and needs to go back for repair/replacement - if you bought it from Ebay you can still do this under the sales of goods act. Let me know if you need help on this.

Guest stuzathegreat Posted December 10, 2008 Report Posted December 10, 2008 (edited) Sorry, Both the Radio and PDA version is J1. I bought the phone from expansys, but I have had the phone for a few months now. Expansys are good guys, give em a ring/email. Failing that, ring the Samsung tech number and they will help you out with warranty fix. edit: Again, if you wanted to push Expansys you can push them to do the repairs themselves or arrange for a replacement under the Sales Of Goods Act. Warranties are somewhat of a non-issue on electrical equipment in the UK because the act effectivley gives you a warranty for a reasonable period after purchase - courts have decided that a reasonable period for electrical items should be around 6 years or so. As you have a 3g phone and the 3g functionality appears to not work you can return it under "Not fit for purpose". Having said all that, this could be overkill as Samsung should do a warranty job for you free anyway B) Edited December 10, 2008 by stuzathegreat
