Guest Fred Bloggs Posted December 7, 2008 Report Posted December 7, 2008 Hi, was looking at the Omnia the other day, & with my upgrade with Orange due, this is the phone I'm thinking about. After having the dreaded N95...which I had to change four times, I bricked once, & still have ongoing promblems now, 18mths later, this firmware has my concerns, especially with Orange. The problem I've had in the past,(told off CPW Engineer), is that the Firmware that Orange recommended, which at the time was 12.0. whatever, is, the only Firmware that CPW will put back on the phone. Even when at the time 22.0 was out. I read a post on Modaco where a member said he would just go to CPW & get them to flash the upgrade while he was there. My point being, is Orange still back with the dinosaurs on this, ie; won't move forward with the Firmware...any member had this with there Omnia ? I tried myself to flash the N95, & you've guessed it. I bricked it, crap Internet Connection off TalkTalk, &^$$"..... constant dropped connection.........but that's another issue. Also, could I connect to the Internet with the Omnia, the same as I do with my N95, via my wireless router, so it would not cost anything ? And Maps, does the Omnia come with free maps like Nokia ? Sorry for the questions, but I don't want another experience like the N95, Thanks in Advance for any feedback, Cheers, FB.
Guest Frankish Posted December 7, 2008 Report Posted December 7, 2008 Yes you can use the WiFi to connect to your router and use the internet without charge. My Omnia came with Google Maps installed B)
Guest greyfox8585 Posted December 7, 2008 Report Posted December 7, 2008 hi fred im with oj and they leave the roms alone now my omnia had no orange firmaware at all and comewith google maps and opera. theye even let me flash the samsung roms because theyve stopped tampering with them

This is a concern to me, since I'm very wary of trying to flash it myself after my experiences with the N95, & my Internet Connection. One of the main reasons I want to stop with Orange, is I have four magic numbers, but if need be I will swap providers if they keep there Fireware up to date. Thanks, FB.
