Guest Worrksforcox Posted December 8, 2008 Report Posted December 8, 2008 (edited) I have an Omnia i910 on Verizon Wireless. Out of the box it did not cooperate with EMS messaging. When I say EMS messaging I mean the semi standard of SMS that allows for over 160 characters for 1 message. If you try to type a message longer than 160 characters it beeps and wont let you type anymore. I found and applied a registry edit that allows to add a dword that essentially says EMSHandlerInstalled=1 and that changed it so that I could then type more than 160 characters in an SMS message. I believe the phone just automatically sends it as multiple messages in groups of 160 characters. Now the problem I am having is when someone else on Verizon sends me an EMS message it comes through as the first 160 characters and the rest is cut off and I get a notice the the preceeding message was modified and incompatible media was removed. I serached the net and some people said they were sure that it was verizon messaging network. I talked to verizon support and they said that it was phone dependant and this phone wasn't capable. I found that weird since I was able to add that key and get multiple messages out. There must be at least some EMS support as evidenced by that. According to them its not anything their network is doing to process the EMS messages its completely my phone. The question is does anyone out there know of a cab or registry edit that would help me receive the EMS messages as well? Are there any other options? Its frustrating for others to send me a message and not count the characters and then I have to constantly say hey I didn't get all of that. Then they have to retype the end stuff in a new message. These phones are supposed to be Smart. Any help out there would be appreciated and I know that you would solve this problem for many many people. Also I found this page that refers to some code that may help but I don't have visual studio or the SDK. Can anyone that knows what they are doing look at this code and compile it. Would it help? http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb158632.aspx Thanks, Matt Edited December 8, 2008 by Worrksforcox
Guest syrguy1969 Posted December 8, 2008 Report Posted December 8, 2008 I don't have an answer, but I get the same message on im-bound SMS. I'm not using the tweak you mentioned for sending, although I am using PocketCM which seems to allow the same type of function for outgoing over 160 characters. I wonder if this is a problem with the Omnia, or with the use of 3rd party CM apps or tweaks!!
