Omnia Problems

ok, here is a variety of problems i have with omnia.. some of them i supposed are software based, others are rom based, and some may be purely hardware..

1. EXTREMELY bad camera pictures quality, here is an example of what im talking about.. (i consider this a nice example of picture, with the best settings i can come up with)

2. EXTREMELY few colors on the display.. i get an awful image quality when playing a movie.. and even the wallpaper is looking REALLY bad..

3. Pretty poor Wi-fi signal.. with my laptop 3 floors down from the router i get 2 bars.. with omnia.. the wi-fi turns itself off!

4. For some reason i cant get my gmail mail to be downloaded via the windows mobile messaging service.. it connects.. but it wont download..

5. In windows live messenger all my contacts appear offline.. :S

6. For some reason the alarm in spb Time buggs.. even tho i have the latest version (with the tweak it needs)

7. Im not a fashion victim, nor will i ever say that id change my omnia for an iphone, but srsly.. make the menus more attractive for the win! For that matter i had to enhance my today screen with a particularly interesting program which can give you insane options when it comes to customisation, WisBar Advance Desktop. That gives me a hard time as well.. B)

8. I still cant get over the fact that it doesnt have a built-in slot for the pen.

9. Having the accelerometer set on auto.. big bullcrap! Only use: show-off to girls

10. WQVGA: OWNS.. when it comes to watching video, when it comes to installing programs.. ouch!

hi man,

well i just thought of giving my opinion on some of the issues you raised.

1. camera picture is excellent on good lighting conditions and mediocre on bad lighting conditions, which i think is standard for non high end point and shoots.

2. im very satisfied with image quality in videos and pictures. almst no lag and stutter. and very vivid colors! blacks are not so deep though and you see a lil dithering with blacks. but all in all excellent for a pda! i use touch player and core player

3. wifi is indeed poor but you will find out that all smartphones have poor reception compared to a laptop. i think this is becasue of the smaller antenna in the pda. alternatively you could also switch of wifi power saving, this signifcantly strengtened my signal.

8. i seldom use the pen now thanks to the finger friendly samsung apps

9. you can adjust the accelerometer settings to suit your needs

10. there are a number of prgrams that take advantage of the omnias screen size and im sure there will be more soon

the omnia is probably the best smartphone out there now. it requires some tweaking to reach its full potentai though.

Perhaps you choice of picture composition might be a factor? Considering you are shooting into a light source, you would expect the image to not be that great. A good rule of thumb, don't use a window during daylight as a background for your subject.

I've taken a few pictures just to see how it worked and they came out fine. A lot better than my previous phone did... but I don't need a camera in my phone.

As mentioned above. typical for a cell phone. Seemed to work okay when I played with it, but I don't normally use WiFi for my portable.

Not an issue here, most likely a setting issue. Setup on that was easier then the rest of the ones I setup.

Check with Spb for support... can't blame the device since it doesn't come with that app. Might be a device issue with that app. This is a new phone.

This IS a Wm6 device so it comes with standard Wm6 themes. Many like the simpleness of it. I use Spb Pocket Plus, and Phone Alarm without any serious issues. There are already a number of pretty good looking themes... should be more coming.

I think you are referring to the Stylus? Don't use a stylus with mine. Surprised they included one.

Nice to have one, for who knows what software might take advantage of it in the future. Not something you really add after the fact so having it there is a plus, even if you don't use it (yet).

First and foremost.... it is a phone. The fact that it does other things are bonuses, but to expect it to be perfect for things where other devices do it better... just means you use the right tool for the tight task.

Personally, I don't need a camera in my cell phone. I don't watch videos on my phone either... don't have that much time to sit and watch one.... I use the network all the time but almost never bother with WiFi...

How you use your phone depends on how good you think it is.

If you find that you need a stylus all the time, you most likely got the wrong type of phone for your uses. I do some texting and a lot of email... works fine without the stylus which is somewhere in my briefcase. The only time I have used it since I got the phone was to push the reset button.

While I have some beefs with the phone, none of them are show stoppers and I've not yet seen a phone that was perfect and don't think there will be one. For now, it is the best phone I've used so far.

I have an issue with the phone. My incoming call Line 2 does not have any vibration so does not realise that i got an 2nd call till i finish my first call.

Anyone encounter this problem?

I have another problem and I don't know how to deal with it!

My streaming player gives me the prompt: Invalid URL! B)

and the second problem how to configure my headset to change tracks from the headset button? When I press it my omnia prompts the dialing keypad!

My Number 1 Complaint: Since I don't carry the stylus anymore, I've lost my toothpick.. lol J/K. Love this phone.

whats an accelerometer??

That's the sensor thatnotices the movements of your phone and then changes your screen from portrait to landscape ......

I've found two problems now i'm on DXHK2.

1. Allready noticed this before but still existing in this rom: Change sound setting and while the small window is still open lock the phone. With the phone locked you'll still be able to change the settings in the smaal window, it even makes the sounds changing the settings. Very annoying when you in a hurry going to a meeting :( .

2. Unable to send e-mail, bloody phone keeps telling me the settings are not ok. "Cannot Connect with the current connection settings. To change your connection settings , tap settings".But if these settings are not right how is it possible that I do receive e-mail :rolleyes: . These will come in when I restart the phone :( . So I guess when I start my Omnia the settings are allright but later they're not :) .

Anybody got an Idea.

Samsung omnia is NOT an SLR camera, nor a LAPTOP. so i think considering that the omnia is just a PHONE. We shouldnt be complaining about wifi receptions, picture quality etc etc ^^

I totally disagree...

I did pay the Omnia the money I could spend on a fair-enough digital camera _and_ an asus eeepc... So, at least, it should be working with the advertised features.

It's okay to accept it will never be a professional camera or a full-featured laptop, but these features are not freebies, you pay for them and it's more than normal to _talk_ about them.

It is a pain in the arse on auto if you are reading ebooks because it has to recalculate and refind which page you are up to (in ereader, anyway) every time the screen rotates. It is good to be able to rotate easily when surfing, though. I set it to manual and reassigned the camera button to manually rotate. This also stops me from perpetually photographing my b0ii0cks every time I take my phone out. The camera button still takes pics when the camera app is open.
