Guest msjfb Posted December 10, 2008 Report Posted December 10, 2008 (edited) I have been trying out the Spam alert dialer from Iconsoft and was very impressed until I discovered that it ignores the pause characters embedded in a dial string. Many of my contacts have such pauses inserted in their phone number, in order to dial their extension number after the auto-attendant answers. Works just fine with the regular dialer. Anyone see this ? [Edit] Looks like you can insert a comma in a dialed string. Will check if it acts as a pause (wait for voice) or a delay (2 second delay as in modem dialing strings). Delay is no good, but if it works as a pause and I want to keep Spam alert, it implies modifying all my contacts... :-( Edited December 10, 2008 by msjfb

On mine (Omnia i910) I get: - Program stops working after 2 hours, goes back to regular dialpad. Cannot be re-launched unless you soft-reset - If I DON'T answer the call, the caller-id screen remains there and it freezes the dialpad. - Some freezes when entering the options menus - Had some conflicts with S2U caller ID. I did sort them out So, right now I uninstalled it. I love the look and feel, but it is wayyy to buggy. Maybe I need to install in into the main memory (had it in storage), but the program is a memory hog!

You may want to try it. I really appreciate the small touches like decreased screen sensitivity during a call so that we don't anything, very finger friendly and well thought out so that we do not have accidental selections while scrolling for instance. There is a new update due out this week (dixit Iconsoft tech support) that should address my concerns over the pause character.
Guest jclsm Posted December 11, 2008 Report Posted December 11, 2008 (edited) No problem. I installed it on device memory. I've disabled: - Samsung Omnia dialer on registry (thread called "Tweaks" in this forum) - and S2U2 caller ID B) Edited December 11, 2008 by jclsm
Guest gravityz Posted December 11, 2008 Report Posted December 11, 2008 i think i also experienced this hsd to reset the phone also i lost contacts in SIM really weird not one but a lot i noticed it was unstable now i am using the standard one and sofar everything is stable will try the update also if they changed someting. for starters there is an option which is called Use Spam alert contacts no description on what it does anywere i think it uses a database of it's own Is Spam alert even doing the basics OK for you? Guest msjfb Posted December 11, 2008 Report Posted December 11, 2008 No problem. I installed it on device memory. I've disabled: - Samsung Omnia dialer on registry (thread called "Tweaks" in this forum) - and S2U2 caller ID  I also had the Omnia dialer diasbled before I tried Spam alert... I do not think it is necessary as Spam alert replaces the dialer completely. Have you seen this with S2U2 (Incoming CallerId also disabled): If my phone has been inactive for some time and a call comes in, Spam alert does not S2U2 when S2U2 wakes up. I only see the S2U2 screen (frozen, no slide to unlock animation). If I press to the bottom left part of the screen (where The Spam alert answer button is located), the Spam alert screens appears and the call has been answered. If I short-press the power button or the phone has been inactive for a short time, all is OK: S2U2 screen briefly appears then the Spam alert screen allowing me to see who is calling and pressing either answer or ignore buttons. It obviously has something to do with the phone and what S2U2 does when it wakes up. Any S2U2 settings available to solve this ?
Guest NickCy Posted December 11, 2008 Report Posted December 11, 2008 Been using it for 2 weeks and its perfect, disabled Omnia dialer from registry and I don't have S2U2 no problems so far.
Guest Cretster Posted December 11, 2008 Report Posted December 11, 2008 Glad it's not just me! To be honest, I like this dialler so much (Assuming it'll work correctly) that I'd be happy to sacrifice S2U2 to have it working. I do like S2U2 and I had it on my XDA Orbit previously but locking & unlocking is simple enough anyway, whereas Spam alert I think gives a vast improvement to call handling & contacts functionality so it's going to win if it comes down to it. I think I'll uninstall S2U2 & see what happens.....
Guest Gregy1403 Posted December 11, 2008 Report Posted December 11, 2008 i have uninstalled S2U2 .. a call came in and i see a picture of caller, a naswer and ignore button, but display is locked .. maybe some setttings?
Guest gravityz Posted December 11, 2008 Report Posted December 11, 2008 the display is not locked but sensitivity is very low(i also thought it was not working but you will have to press harder and longer) i thin kthey implemented this to avoid contact while talking on the phone they however forgot that you first need to pick up the phone before you can talk hopefully they will solve it in the next release i have uninstalled S2U2 .. a call came in and i see a picture of caller, a naswer and ignore button, but display is locked .. maybe some setttings?
Guest Cretster Posted December 11, 2008 Report Posted December 11, 2008 Well I've just been testing it out and it's much better with S2U2 removed. Works a treat! I like the fact that you have to press the buttons for longer while on a call. Now because I've removed S2U2, is there any other way I can both lock the phone AND turn the screen off at the same time (ie with one button) and back on again the same way? I normally locked it by just pressing the top button to turn the screen off and S2U2 would then lock it, but obviously I can't do that now. It's a pain having to lock it to avoid button presses AND turn the screen off separately to avoid battery drain while you aren't using it.

I am going to play around with some S2U2 settings to see if I can get it to cooperate with Spam alert... You may want to try the latest (memory resident) version of Sunscape. I tried earlier versions, but it was buggy. This last version looks a lot better (read the posts, you want the latest version not the Stable one). http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=416843 P.S.: When I was testing, I had to increase the screen sensitivity setting in Sunscape (I think it is called pressure point value) from 1 to 5 in order to be able to unlock the screen without furiously wiping it... If S2U2 does not work, I will give this a try once more.

No problems pressing the Answer or Decline buttons. CallerId is shown. When a SMS comes in, I get the notification and the S2U2 screen If I just turn on the phone, I get the S2U2 screen. Guest AJBopp Posted December 27, 2008 Report Posted December 27, 2008 My Problem with PhoneEx is that all the controls go disabled and only a soft reset will fix the problem. I suspected a conflict with S2U2 so I disabled it from starting automatically, just to see if it would help matters. For awhile this seemed to work but now, at 11:30 AM, PhoneEx has already locked up twice on me. In this state none of the buttons work and I cannot scroll through whatever list happens to be displayed (contacts, calls, etc.) Interestingly, it seems to have no effect on any of the rest of my device (Sprint Touch). Everything else works normally, and when a call comes in while PhoneEx is in this state, it does come alive long enough to show me the answer screen and let me answer the call. But when I press End Call, all the buttons go disabled and it stays on that screen until I soft reset. Has anyone else experienced something like this? AJ
Guest bobobird Posted December 30, 2008 Report Posted December 30, 2008 I have gone off PhoneEx as well primarily because it cannot do keyboard selections while in a call (eg responding to press 1 for english, 2 for xxx type calls).

I use Spam alert in this manner all the time... Just bring up the phonepad during a call, and the pressed digits are sent through. I'm using version 1.1. Curious to understand why it would not work for you... (I have the Samsung phonepad disabled in the registry).
Guest SwagR Posted December 30, 2008 Report Posted December 30, 2008 I've been using Iconsoft for about a week and i must say its a a very good looking software and works pretty well, but i have a few gripes that i cant overlook. Every time i run this program my voice command automatically shuts down and says "not enough free memory" Memory hog? It lags a bit after a call is ended before you can dial again...and when i say lag i get like 3-5 seconds wait before i can make a next quick call Flick scrolling takes forever if you have over 200 contacts because you are unable to jump to a letter using the alphabet bar(which defeats the purpose of having an alphabet bar), u must flick scroll all the way down! and my biggest gripe, it offers no quick search from the dialpad whatsoever! This is a must! I'm reading that these will be addressed in version 1.2 but i couldn't put up with it until then so i went back to Inesoft phone 4 which works like a dream in allllll aspects...it may not be as pretty in some areas(granted that its not ugly either) but it has alot more features than Spam alert without as many bugs! Here are just a few: Scheduled finger optimized profiles Finger friendly call filter Skinnable fullscreen caller ID with SMS reply, Loudspeaker, callback and mute..on the fly Missed call reminder Setting MP3's that are not on the phone's memory as ring tone.(not sure if Spam alert can do this) Plus everything iconsoft has including QUICK SEARCH FROM THE DIALPAD! :-) Not at all saying that Spam alert is bad but i need a bit more than eyecandy...i'll wait for 1.2 or higher

Just press the DPAD and it will bring up a grid of letters, press one of the letters and it will bring you to the first entry of that letter.

Although I won't be using Spam alert myself anytime soon, you do not have to scroll all the way down (and up) through your contacts. I believe that if, when you are in the contacts list, if you tap the contacts button again, alphabet buttons will pop up. Press the M, for instance, and that's where you will go in the contacts list. Guest capricorn Posted January 27, 2009 Report Posted January 27, 2009 (edited) 1.2 got released today and it solves alot of these bugs I have gone off PhoneEx as well primarily because it cannot do keyboard selections while in a call (eg responding to press 1 for english, 2 for xxx type calls). I am still experiencing the same problem in as encountered by Bobobird in v1.2 - cant bring up phonepad (number pad) mid call. I use 320x320 theme though. Is this a theme/skin related issue?
