Mac User Here (Missing Sync/.nCF/random problems)

Hey all,

I've been having a sizable amount of problems with my i910 VZW Omnia in regards to 3rd party apps and instead of leaving them a drift in random replies I figured it might be best to collect them all together.

First off: I'm a Mac user who's using MissingSync instead of Active Sync with the default VZW ROM. This may be where I'm generating problems from as I consider myself very tech savvy. I have been out of the windows game for a couple years and have never owned a WinMo but have never been more then a Google search away from fixing any problem on either platform. So I'm appealing to any WinMo/Mac enthusiast who may have some answers as I can fine none.

I've got a few apps installed to a degree of success.

S2U2: Works fairly well, however occasion screen rotations during lock skews the screen so that I can no longer see the entire unlock bar, plus on a new call the slider remains inactive for about 10 seconds before allowing me to take the call.

SPB Mobile Shell: Works brilliantly, except any and all themes that I have tried from this forum do not work. The skins from http://www.imarche.net/omnia/index.htm do not work for me. Mortscript runs and tells me it is registered and to run any mscr file etc. Then as I run install_wqvga.mscr it tells me it can not be opened. It's either not signed or trusted or a component can't be found. I've followed instructions up to that point to a T so I'm a bit frustrated. Manilla had closer results. I haven't tried reinstalling it in a minute (no time to do it before work today), but if I recall it installed as normal, but when I went to launch spb menu I can just see the icons on the bottom and nothing else, no functionality, all black screen, etc. I had to uninstall both the theme and mobile shell and reinstall to get just spb to work. Again, all instructions followed to a T.

I attempted the tethering hack: and got IntShrUI installed but on connection it tells me to check my USB cable which has never failed working. It also breaks connectivity with missing sync while running only to resume while closing the app. I've tried disabling both missing sync on my mac and closing active sync on my device to no avail. Additionally WMWifiRouter can not be installed regardless if I try to install on my device or my storage. Again I followed each instructions, soft resets where necessary etc.

Coreplayer: Installed, works great for music but for video the nly way I can truly get full screen with no tearing or cropping is to disable motion sensor and keep it in portrait, set the orientation on full screen to right handed and it will display. It's a few more steps then I'd like to use to play the video full screen. I've tried the normal and follow GUI setting to no avail. It continues to tear and crop the video or simply play it as it was in portait with simply a black background.

Any .jar games from gameloft: Each installed fine thanks to jblend however the resolution was pretty off and I the screen unresponsive. so I couldn't launch any games. I assume its due to resolution issues but was hoping for a stretch option.

.net Compact Framework: Couldn't install due to dotnetfx35setup not being a valid PPC app. This I'm assuming is also due to me being on a Mac and using Missing Sync.

speleomaniac's HTC emu: Every link to the file comes up blank for me including the latest version on the games thread. Could someone point me towards an active link so that I may further fail? :rolleyes:

If anyone at all is familiar with these errors or a mac user willing to try to duplicate and troubleshoot could help with any of this that would be fantastic!

OK, I am on a mac too. And have seen some of this.

First, I would try PocketMac instead of MissingSync. They have a recent WM 6.1 update and it has been working really well

The Tethering Hack works for me in windows as long as I disable any other synching (so try not to be in sync) Makes sense as you are literally connecting to the Omnia as a modem. You cannot run it both ways. I don't have a mac laptop to test.

S2U2: Happens to me too, the landscape going haywire thing. Annoying. Probably have to wait for an update or use a much older version. (The one in my old XV6700 never failed and did the basics ok)

Which Coreplayer version are you using? I got one here at MoDaCo that have been modified for some of the newer HTCs and works well in both modes.

Microsoft .NET framework will NOT run in a Mac, (unless you are running XP in parallels) also, when downloading cab files, sometimes the MAC mangles them beyond repair. I remember the Spam alert Cab file I downloaded via Mac failed. The one I downloaded in windows was OK. I would suggest you download your CAB files in windows as much as you can.

No games found for me either. Sad, I know.

Throw MissingSync and Pocketmac away. They are really crap compared to SyncMate: http://mac.eltima.com/sync-mac.html

This is syncing the way it always should have been.

Hi , i use A mac @ my work place , i used missin sync 4 a while & it worked well 4 me, but an activsync feature i use in windows xp @ home doesnt work , which is i connect my omnia to active sync via bleuthooth and surf the web or liste, to web radios via my pc connexion (shared) any soft on mac can do that ??

I agree, SyncMate is the best so far. I used PocketMac but (1) Didn't get updated very much, and (2) Always seemed to have some kind of problem. One thing I do miss with PocketMac was it's native Entourage mode - went directly to the Entourage databases. I never did have any success with Entourage syncing properly with iCal/Address Book/etc., so when I switched to SyncMate I had to switch to the native Mac apps. But SyncMate always seems to sync properly, and is updated on a regular basis.
