Tutorial on gestures and touch screen

I saw the Omnia on a TV advert and decided that it looked great that the phone could support gestures and had a touch screen.

The reality for me is a bit disappointing. I have to drag the stick out just about any time I want to use the phone.

Is there some place where there is a tutorial on using the touch screen? I do not get repeatable results when trying to scroll lists etc.

Can someone explain from where, to where gestures should be made, what is the list of gestures that are acceptable, are there some screen hotspots for repeat scrolling?

For instance, my phone book has many entries - I find it very difficult to arrive at a phone number - my previous phone (HTC) had a facility where you could hold down the down key and it would accelerate through the alphabet quite quickly and then you could slow the scroll down to get to the desired number.

If I try to use the swipe gesture on the contact list it seems to scroll and then select the contact that it ends on and ready to phone it.

Help!

Hi Charles, I'm really enjoying my Omnia. I have asked Samsung SA to see if they will get us updated ROMs. But I digress. I find the easiest way find a contact is to press the phone button to bring up the dialler and then type in the name of the contact using the number that corresponds to the letter in the name, so for Charles I would type 2427 and you will see a list of matches above the keypad. Then use the slide to select the one you want and slide across to the number type m, w etc and press phone to dial. Pressing slide will take you into viewing the contact.

If you bring up the phonebook you can scroll in a couple of ways. If you press and hold the screen you can slide up and down the contacts list as if it were a paper list below the screen. if you slide your finger up or down quickly it will continue like a page up.

Also in phone book if you click and hold on the letter bar down the side you can slide to a particular letter.

You could also use the Dpad to scroll down large lists quickly. It works in both orientations... just a thought
