I910 EMS Messaging

Im reposting this because I never got a response from a couple of weeks ago. Can someone please look at this code and compile it into a cab for us I910 users. Is this code safe/useful? I don't have a compiler. Thanks for any help!

I have an Omnia i910 on Verizon Wireless. Out of the box it did not cooperate with EMS messaging. When I say EMS messaging I mean the semi standard of SMS that allows for over 160 characters for 1 message. If you try to type a message longer than 160 characters it beeps and wont let you type anymore. I found and applied a registry edit that allows to add a dword that essentially says EMSHandlerInstalled=1 and that changed it so that I could then type more than 160 characters in an SMS message. I believe the phone just automatically sends it as multiple messages in groups of 160 characters. Now the problem I am having is when someone else on Verizon sends me an EMS message it comes through as the first 160 characters and the rest is cut off and I get a notice the the preceeding message was modified and incompatible media was removed. I serached the net and some people said they were sure that it was verizon messaging network. I talked to verizon support and they said that it was phone dependant and this phone wasn't capable. I found that weird since I was able to add that key and get multiple messages out. There must be at least some EMS support as evidenced by that. According to them its not anything their network is doing to process the EMS messages its completely my phone. The question is does anyone out there know of a cab or registry edit that would help me receive the EMS messages as well? Are there any other options? Its frustrating for others to send me a message and not count the characters and then I have to constantly say hey I didn't get all of that. Then they have to retype the end stuff in a new message. These phones are supposed to be Smart. Any help out there would be appreciated and I know that you would solve this problem for many many people.

Also I found this page that refers to some code that may help but I don't have visual studio or the SDK. Can anyone that knows what they are doing look at this code and compile it. Would it help?

Thanks,

Matt

I'm pretty sure its Verizon's networks, whether they want to admit it or not. I can recieve EMS messages from anyone from AT&T, but not from anyone in Verizon. They just break up into messages that say (1 of 3) etc.. I found this very annoying and hope verizon can fix it, as I ussually text with friends back and forth in large messages. Great job with the registry find, that'll solve half of my problem. Just need to find a reg editor...

PHM Regedit works great. I got mine from http://www.phm.lu/products/PocketPC/RegEdit

I also attached the cab file. :)

Thanks,

I have the same problem with my 910. I've spoken with people in Verizon tech support a couple times and they claim to have no notes on it and are unaware. The odd thing is that you are able to send more than 160 characters WinMo to WinMo, and I can send more than 160 broken into multiple pages, but I cannot receive more than 160 from a regular phone. I get nothing from Verizon on this, but maybe the WinMo to WinMo thing can at least help someone explain why we can't receive more than 160 from a normal phone.

Thanks for the upload, works like a charm. Can anyone outline where exactly the EMS registry key is? I haven't been able to stumble upon it, and a search reveals nada. If anyone needs a tester for texting between a regular verizon phone and a WinMo phone, I got both :-)
