Guest tobbbie Posted December 15, 2008 Report Posted December 15, 2008 (edited) Dear Benq E72 friends, ...I bought (a reasonably cheap) special E72 dedicated to the BT Fusion Service (merging VOIP via WIFI with GSM in a seamless way - called UMA). Now I see that others seem to have different ROMs with also different options to set. I want to collect here the differences in the ROMs. Did you know that Kyocera sells the same device in Middle-America under the name E4000? They also have a Usermanual to downlad there (if you ignore the operator specifics a good first impression): http://www.kyocera-wireless.com/e4000-phone/user-guides.htm 1.) Which logo appears when you boot up the phone? BT-Fusion: animated BT-fusion Logo 2.) Which languages can be selected in Start->Settings->Regional Settings->Language: (The locale on that level will allow many, but the Language often does not) BT-Fusion: only English 3.) Which languages can be selected for T9, e.g. in Home->(Right SoftKey)Contact->New(First Name)->(Long Press * Key) Is there an extra menu item "T9 Languages" + which are selected after that? BT-Fusion: only English 4.) Which additional SW is installed on the phone (apart from WM6)? - is MobileOffice installed (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)? BT-Fusion: No - any special Homescreenmodules? BT-Fusion: Facade Homescreen - others? BT-Fusion: - Vito Ringtone Editor - Vito Audio Notes - IM client - RSS Reader - Internet Radio (only described in manual, but not on device) - Settings for UMA 5.) Is there a downloadable version of the User Manual available? BT-Fusion: No 6.) Is the phone SIM-locked? BT-Fusion: No 7.) Is the Phone application locked? BT-Fusion: Yes, but can fully be unlocked, e.g. SDA-Aplication Unlock works. 8.) Any other specialties? BT-Fusion: The purpose for UMA has some drivers installed and resident programs as well serving this purpose. Depending on the WIFI Settings the battery will not last long. I am sure this can be settled by manipulating the relevant registry entries (HKLM\Init\ watch the Launchnn variables) - but it may take some time to find the bare minimum of a "normal, non UMA" device. 9.) Which potentially HW dependent Programs are reported to work? I suspect this is not depending on the ROM, so I will not separate the list here by ROM. Just mention for which ROM you have tested it in brackets after the program. Please do not list normal programs here - it would be just too many. Most programs that do not run are restricted by the Application Lock, not the device HW. - WM5torage works (BT-Fusion) - OMAPClock ? I have addressed similar questions also in the Expansys support forum, but I see many searching around here as well and hope to see more feedback here. bye tobbbie :-) P.S.: If Paul could now finally create the promised dedicated E72 forum - would be a nice Christmas present :-) Edited December 16, 2008 by tobbbie
Guest renesis22 Posted December 15, 2008 Report Posted December 15, 2008 Not sure if this helps in anyway, but I found that Startech ST 88 might also be another option to look at. I don't know anything else than is listed on this page: http://startech-mobile.com/web/produk/view/16
Guest tobbbie Posted December 16, 2008 Report Posted December 16, 2008 I don't think that the announced device is the same. It looks nearly identical but major tech details are different, e.g proprietary OS, 0.3 MP Cam etc. Funny though how really lokalike it is.
Guest renesis22 Posted December 24, 2008 Report Posted December 24, 2008 Finally got a chance to reply to this post properly, got the phone from Expansys. 1.) Which logo appears when you boot up the phone? BenQ 2.) Which languages can be selected in Start->Settings->Regional Settings->Language: US English, Espanol, Turkce, Polski, Pyccknn. 3.) Which languages can be selected for T9, e.g. in Home->(Right SoftKey)Contact->New(First Name)->(Long Press * Key) Is there an extra menu item "T9 Languages" + which are selected after that? T9 English, T9 Russian, T9 Turkish, T9 Spanish, T9 Polish 4.) Which additional SW is installed on the phone (apart from WM6)? - is MobileOffice installed (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)? Facade - IM, Messenger - Windows Live - Audio Notes, Calendar, Tasks, Traveller - Bubble Breaker, Internet Radio, Ringtone Editor, Solitaire, Windows Media Player - 2D Barcode, Calculator, Java 5.) Is there a downloadable version of the User Manual available? No 6.) Is the phone SIM-locked? No 7.) Is the Phone application locked? Yes, but can fully be unlocked 8.) Any other specialties? Guest tobbbie Posted December 24, 2008 Report Posted December 24, 2008 Thanks - this proves that Expansys is not selling the BT Fusion devices as well :-) It seems that the file \Windows\initflashfiles.dat is telling much about the OEM handling. It is a Unicode text file and I have attached mine to this thread. Not sure though if we need to discuss these very detailed technical things here at MoDaCo. I have posted my findings for the E72 at XDA Developers in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=463087initflashfiles.zip

Guest tobbbie Posted January 3, 2009 Report Posted January 3, 2009 i have the same phone as the one of renesis22 some things 5) you could dwnload pdf manual on turkish benq site... the manual is in turkish T_T" 9) srs wow doesn't work on mine, wm5storage doesn't work too (i had unlocked with firstinstall cab and unlock enable cab) anyone that have the asian initflashfiles.dat could share it with us? I downloaded the Turkish manual - just to see that it is obviously identical to the E4000 (minus their operator specifics). So for English speaking the E4000 is the best available. For the WM5Storage consult the related thread here at MoDaCo. I suspect you need to also apply the SDA-Application Unlock (I did this right from the start). The security concept of Windows Mobile is very sophisticated and things that work for one device may not work for another. Anyway it is FAR(!) better to eject the Card (it is hot-plugable anyway here), put in a Reader and operate it there for large transfers. I have a SanDisk Ultra (certified sdhc class 6) with the acompanied micro-reader and this writes at 13MB/s and reads at 20. The device is only at 300kB/s write and 600kB/s read - this only fits for very small transfers. I once had SRSWow on my Tornado - and kicked it again. Buy some good in-ears (e.g. the now really cheap Sennheiser CX-300 - take care to get Orginals and not chinese copies).
