Guest Kurvenal Posted December 15, 2008 Report Posted December 15, 2008 I am interested in hearing from anyone who has experience using Memory Map's Pocket Navigator with their Omnia. According to Memory Map, WM6.1 devices seem to have trouble handling large map file sizes (over 100MB). Since Memory Map supports map sizes on a PPC up to 400MB, this is a real limitation (for example, the London A-Z map file is close to 200MB). I used several WM6.0 devices with Memory Map and was routinely able to open Ordnance Survey map files up to 250MB. I used Memory Map briefly with an Omnia and do not remember having any issues. I am now using an HTC device, and have run into this problem. I would be very interested to know if this is an HTC problem or a WM6.1 problem generally. Can someone who is using Memory Map with their Omnia tell me if they are able to open large map files?
Guest balles Posted December 15, 2008 Report Posted December 15, 2008 Hi, I don't use MemoryMap but OziExplorer. The biggest file is 117 Mb and I have no problem at all. If the problem is supposed to be related to WM 6.1, I don't experience it. By the way, I recommend you OziExplorer for performance reasons. Hope it helps. Out of curiosity, are you using UK OS maps from a commercial source with it?
Guest TheNerd Posted December 16, 2008 Report Posted December 16, 2008 This is a Windows 6.1 issue, and I have not heard of any Windows phone that doesn't get this problem. It is particularly annoying since on older WinMo versions these restrictions did not seem to affect operation and you could happily load 200Mb maps such as the London A-Z. On my HTC Touch HD I can barely load anything bigger than the portions possible to send when at full zoom on the PC. Hopefully somebody will come up with a work around however it will not likely come in a hurry. Looking into other mapping software may be the only answer.
Guest balles Posted December 16, 2008 Report Posted December 16, 2008 I am using commercial and non commercial sources, France and Spanish maps. I converted French maps from the official cartographic French source (IGN) and some Spanish maps were converted from MapSource and MrSid sources. I also calibrated myself some map images (such as Paris buses network). OziExplorer is widely supported, you can virtually convert all sources to it. Just for information, the 117 Mb map has a resolution of 12 000 x 10 000 pixels with 64 colors. Concerning the size limitation, OziExplorer PDA format, .ozfx3, as well as .ecx format, are block optimised. This means that the whole image does not need to be charged on RAM, so I would say that there is virtually no size limitation, maybe I am wrong or I have something missing... Thanks, will check out OziExplorer. Out of curiosity, are you using UK OS maps from a commercial source with it?
Guest simon11 Posted April 10, 2009 Report Posted April 10, 2009 I have this problem also. The only work around at the moment is to split the maps in to pieces smaller than 100mb. This is done easily by just saving the visible portion of the map to your PDA. I have the lake district for instance saved in two seperate portions.
