i910 Verizon Omnia headset volume

So as any Verizon Omnia owner is by now aware, the keypad code for the audio settings does not work on this phone. There is a setting in the registry that you can use to raise the volume of your calls on the handset, but nothing (at least nothing obvious) to raise the voloume on the headset. I'd very much like to listen to mp3s at a louder volume, and so would like to crank up the volume on the headset. I've seen the registry havks that point you to HKLM/Samsung/Audio, but the Verizon i910's don't have this registry entry. So anyone know how to turn up the headset volume on these things?

Thanks!

As you say, the key pad code doesn't work on the i910 but you can find the app it is supposed to bring up under the Windows directory (SoundTester.exe). However, none of the changes will save (even if you hit Apply)...I'm not sure why and can't figure out where it is supposed to write the settings. It appears that the i910 doesn't use the settings from it anyway.

What registry key did you adjust to increase your volume on the handset and what did you change? I haven't found anything in these forums that made any difference.

OK, so I solved my problem. First, though, I'd like to direct pamperinm to the registry entry HKCU/CONTROLPANEL/SOUNDCATAGORIES/INCALL. Turn up the INIT volume to get the volume on your calls to go up. You'll need a registry editor to change this, I like PHM. A small amount of searching will find you one.

Now onto the headset volume problem. The simple answer is this: the registry changes that I spurned in my earlier post do actually work on the Verizon phone. I first discovered them here: http://howardforums.com/showpost.php?p=120...p;postcount=575 . I had originally assumed that, since the registry entries that you were supposed to change didn't exist on my phone, the changes would have no effect on my phone. I was wrong, they do work. I used \Windows\SoundTester.exe to play with my Normal->Headset settings while I was playing an mp3 in S2P. After each change, I had to restart the song for the setting to take effect. Closing out the program would cause my changes to be voided, which was frustrating at first. Then I decided to open the registry editor while I was making the changes in SoundTester, and lo and behold, the very registry entries that were mentioned in that hofo post were appearing and disappearing as I diddled in SoundTester. I kept the registry editor open and viewing the registry entry of interest to me (HKLM\SAMSUNG\AUDIO\HEADSETNORMAL) while I closed SoundTester, and viola, the changes stuck around this time. I'd imagine you could go in and make the change yourself, but this was way easier.

Many thanks to the community for the support on this half-baked phone! Why so many things are so difficult to do, I have no idea. But after cooking this thing a few different ways, it's really pretty nice.

You are a freaking GENIUS, BitterBastard!! I have been playing around with this for a week and couldn't figure out why the settings wouldn't stick. I stopped by a Verizon store yesterday to look at other phones because I just couldn't hear this thing in my car...even with a wired headset or bluetooth. I'm glad I didn't make any decisions yesterday because I love this phone aside from the volume issues. THIS FIXED MY PROBLEM and I can now adjust the settings with no trouble.

THANKS!

I did find one downside: When you use the AudioControl (soundtester) to raise the volume of the headset by setting the HP(04) value to something like 0db you can no longer raise or lower the InCall volume when on a call. The toggle on the side of the phone still raises and lowers the slider but the volume doesn't change. It stays at the volume level set in HP(04).

Is this only when connected to a headset, or also using the handset itself?

It appears to only be when connected to the headset. It's not a huge problem for me, however, because I use a wired headset with a volume control.

This is slightly off the topic, but it involves sound. Is there a way to get that blasted incremental ring tone to stop happening when a call comes in?!? I like chop my own MP3 ring tones and I like them loud. However, I would prefer to hear them at all so that I can then catch calls. Anyone got a tip or this on the i910? Could not find it on the board...yet.

Where in the registry are you supposed to paste that file from HoFo?

you have to import it with your registry editor. i use Resco Registry editor and just select menu then import, and select the reg file.

1. you have to be using a 3rd party file explorer like resco file explorer to see system files.

2. you also have to go into options in the file explorer and tell it to show hidden files and show system files. then you will be able to find soundtester.exe

alright well I downloaded resco file explorer and it is on my phone as well as computer. I have having a problem opening the program on my computer. Also I don't completely understand how to access the options explorer to show hidden files to find soundtester.exe. if you would be able to help me out with that, it would be awesome. sorry for being such a noob.

Ok no problem man.

1. Resco File explorer needs to be coppied to your phone by plugging it into the computer and then copy and paste the .cad file you should have to you omnia. then on your omnia open the normal file explorer program on your phone and browse to where ever you put the resco .cad file and click it to install.

2. then once it has been installed you go to your programs menu and select resco file explorer.

3. Once Resco file explorer is open press menu in the bottom right corner. then select options > general.

4. at the bottom of the screen press the tab that says Browser. then just simply un check all the boxes in this menu. and then you should be able to find the soundtester.exe in your windows folder.

This looks potentially promising...

Here's my issue: I need to pump up BT volume for A2DP stereo listening. I know my headset (Plantronics Voyager 855) is capable of louder, undistorted audio because I get noticably louder audio from my laptop when connected.

The issue for me is that I have hearing loss in my right ear, so must use balance controls to dial down the left side. This makes everything, perceptually for me, not loud enough at full volume. So, would any of these reg changes increase BT A2DP volume? If so, which setting?

Thanks!

OK, this is going to sound completely bogus but on the i910 volume question, I

actually think this made a difference.

First open File Explorer, go to My Device, open Windows folder, and then find SoundTester. Open SoundTester. In Soundtest open the Menu and then open Normal. In Normal open either Handset or Headset. If you open Handset, you will see SPK(02) with a value of 0 dB. Now, we all know that if you change this value and then go back to Menu and hit Apply, the value will not hold and will not have any effect on the volume.

Now, here is where it gets weird. When you open Handset, go to Menu and hit Cancel instead of Apply. Now if you look at SPK(02), you will now see the value has changed to -6 dB. Change the -6 dB to 0 db and now go to Menu and hit Apply. Again, this value will not hold, however, if you now do a soft reset, I think you will now notice a difference in your handset volume. If this is my imagination, I apologize for wasting your time but it seems much louder to me.

Now, for the Headset, do the same thing. Go to Menu, Normal, Headset. This time you will see HP(04) = 0 dB. Again, go back to Menu annd hit Cancel. Now HP(04) = -6dB. Again, change to 0 dB, hit Menu, Apply, close and do a soft reset.

Now my headphones are so loud that I don't use them on the loudest setting--too loud.

Let me know if anybody else has the same experience. I want to know if this actually works for somebody else or if it's a result of having survived the 60's.

I did what you did and had the same type of changes NOW I can hear my ring tone and ditto on the head set .

Easy Fix

OK Guys, not to be dimwitted, but: I try'd importing the registry files and couldnt see the changes in the registry that was listed in the file. Some of the keys didnt even exist. Am I doing this wrong? I used Total Commander and copied the file. If done this with other reg files before with no problems. Do I need to have sound tester open when I do this?

Thanks.

This only works for the wired headset. It doesn't work for BT because I have the same problem as you with my Jabra BT3030.
