i did

i downloaded v 1.0.7 from here

http://www.i-go8.com/

my older igo was running from storagecard

this one is runnig from mem.

i also modified paths in the sys.txt file but no help there.

my sys file looks like this

[folders]

app="Mijn opslag/IGO/iGO8"

content="Mijn opslag/IGO/iGO8/content"

[interface]

skin="ui_igo8"

maxzoom2d=6000000

wide=1

show_exit=1

vga=0

[rawdisplay]

driver="GDI"

class="auto"

highres=0

[gps]

port=3

baud=4800

[tts]

always_say_road_names=1

announce_exit_directions=1

data.zip and branding.zip are in mijn opslag\IGO\iGO8

if i move them to the skins directory and change skinpath i get an error that it can not download file from the200_400 directory(which are in the data.zip file

igo 8.3 dos not accept 8.0 skins.

did you use gpsgate or port splitter with the omnia/igo

what settings did you use for gps device and igo8? i.e. software/hardware.

cheers

Default settings are fine - com3, com9, 4800, auto.

Enhanced - enable or disable, not much difference either way. Disabled fix will take a little bit longer but my experience is that the time between fixes has an effect on how quickly a new fix is obtained because the overhead sats would have changed and the coordinates have to be obtained all over again. Xtras, has the sats worldwide so the unit still has to calibrate. Additionally, I am not sure whether iGo actually uses xtras at all. My results are very very mixed - sometimes within seconds, sometimes a minute or more.

igo8 is not looking at the settings you put in external gps in windows

it allways uses Com3:4800

it also does not save your settings in igo8(eg select 19200 but next time it is on 4800)

however when you select search it comes back with com3,38400(even if you selected something else in external gps settings under wm6.1

tested it today with both wm6.1 and igo set to com3,38400

the lag(delay) seems to be minimal

do not know if it does not work when the 32 baudrates do not matvh

with gpsproxy and tt7 it did not matter wat i selected it always worked but then you might get buffer error because the buffer is filled with 4800 but emptied with 9600

Hi there,

i've also succesfully installed IGO 8 on my omnia. However each time I want to plan a route it needs internet connection. When I don't allow IGO to start internet it is not able to calculate a route. So does anyone know how to solve this problem or is this just a characteristic of IGO?! It would be nice not to use internet data when navigating abroad (internet abroad not covered in my bundle).

the only item, which makes internet connections is probably the gps

go to settings/enhanced gps and deselect agps

also download nodata and disable the internet connection

see how this works

hey guys.

So now I also have Igo 8.3.2. :rolleyes:

Now, when i start it, it should automatically look for a GPS signal, right? From what i read here, there are no special settings required? Why won't it find a signal then...? :)

Then I have a different version, on my Omnia sometimes I use the internal GPS which is on Com 3 combined with XTRA which gives me a faster fix, sometimes I use an external GPS on com port 6. Shutting down iGO and restarting it will have the last setting in its memeory, so if you stopped while using com port 6 it will look for this port. The BR does not seem to have an effect on GPS function...played around whith it but did not noticed a difference...

i was talking about the baudrate

did not check if the comport stays the same because i only use com3

i also noticed that baudrate does not seem to have an effect

however when it really uses the baudrate displayed you might get into trouble along the way

eg

you baudrate in wm6.1 is 4800

if igo8 is using a faster baudrate you might end up with an empty buffer

savest way is to match baudrates.

@Master_axe.

try searching for the comport

if it finds your gps it should work but then you pronbably do not have a fix yet

you need to be outside

inside is not good

also i noticed that sometimes it helps to move around(in your car)

well... i have com 3 for programs, com 9, 4800 for hardware. oh and "manage automatically" is marked.

i900 running windows mobile 6.5

igo version 8.3

Igo starts normally but it cant find the gps device, even using autodetect feature.

I guess there´s no problem with the hardware part, because i can find and lock to gps sats with google maps. I just can´t figure anything else to try ... any ideas?

cheers from Brazil,

Gus

If you have done a clean installtion, it should auto detect the setting as com 0 with budrate 57,600!! Bear in mind this is not matching with your device default setting (i.e. com 9 budrate 4800). It doesn't a matter!! ;)

This should be fine and leave your device 10-15 minutes to get lock with gps. :)

When I start up the new version it tells me my maps are out of date, so I downloaded the Naviextras Toolbox as it recommended but the software won't recognize My Storage.

I installed IGO 8.3.something yesterday. It works amazing... but my battery runs out in like no time.

In example, yesterday, when i got home after doing some stuff, at 4am. I disconected the phone, i left it at home plugged and loading the battery, when i woke up this morning, at like 11am. i was nearly out of battery, there were no bars on the icon left.

Can that be caused due to the GPS? The Igo version I installed... well, lets say it doesnt appear as a program, its something 'portable', so i checked the task manager looking for the Igo process to kill it, but there wasnt anything to stop.

Can my GPS still be on in some way?

Please help, the system is just amazing... but if i cant fix that... well, ill have to pass on this ;)

Thanks in advance for your time and help :D

EDIT: My appologies for this poor english :angry:

You can use GPS for an hour or two before the battery runs out, but if you are using it in the car I recommend plugging the phone into a power source AND make sure the power indicator within Igo8 indicates it is drawing power externally.

I was using mine today and discovered although it was connected to the 12V DC outlet and the light on the charger was lit - it was not in fact drawing power.

After I did a restart it did.

Thanks in advance for your time and help :)

I was using mine today and discovered although it was connected to the 12V DC outlet and the light on the charger was lit - it was not in fact drawing power.

The not-charging problem is most probably due to overheating, a loooot of Omnia users have/had this problem (me too).

When using a gps software, and iGO more than others, the Omnia gets hot a lot and quite quickly. Once a certain temperature is reached, the firmware disables charging and the only way to re-enable it is a soft reset (only to have it disabled again when the temperature is reached again).

How to try to avoid this:

1) do NOT EVER use an original samsung windshield mount: it may look slim and stylish, but it's actually very badly designed: it leaves no "breathing room" on the back of the omnia and sometimes it can even worsen the gps signal reception

2) whenever possible, try to mount an air vent phone holder, the more "free room" on the back of the Omnia the better

3) if your car has air conditioning, use it!

Tests I've made:

- with original samsung windshield mount in a car without air conditioning on a sunny summer day: stops charging after 30-45 mins (of course with iGO on) - GPS signal reception a bit "unsure"

- with original samsung windshield in a car WITH air conditioning on a sunny summer day: charging ok after 3+ hours - GPS signal reception a bit "unsure"

- with a tetrax air vent holder (it leaves the whole back of the Omnia free to breath) in a car WITHOUT air conditioning on a sunny summer day: charging ok after 10+ hours or driving - GPS signal reception OK

The above is what I tested and helped me solve the no-charging problem, hope it will help someone  :)
