Guest InSaiyanOne Posted December 16, 2008 Report Posted December 16, 2008 Hey everyone if you haven't heard of it head over to flexilis.com and sign up to help test the beta of their new program. "...we’ve developed a next generation mobile security application built to keep your mobile device and data safe from whatever comes your way from loss or theft to malware, hackers, and spam. We’ve built this app from the ground up with a keen focus on the unique aspects of mobile devices, so it is lightweight (really fast / battery efficient), cross platform (runs on tons of devices) and is designed to stop the threats facing mobile devices as they evolve." Main features: Backup/restore - contacts, photos, sounds sms messages, videos, & documents Online viewing/access of all data backed up (with options to restore individual files/contacts) "Attack Protection", "Data Protection", "Anti-Virus" (on device) - Options to backup data, view blocked events, and scan your phone for viruses. Graph of activity - Seems to update with the activity from the flexilis server...not sure if it's more than that. Home Panel - option to have a panel show up on your home screen...not 4 me. My opinion is that it is/will be a good app to have around if not to at least back up your info, also the fact that I can go online and restore my contacts using my phone's browser (Skyfire). Try it if ya want.

It also causes problems starting Google Apps from the Panel HomeScreen. Disabling the Anti-Virus option resolves both issues for me. With the previous Beta I had to disable both the Anti-Virus "and" the Attack Protection.
Guest Nottach Posted April 17, 2009 Report Posted April 17, 2009 i also had major problems, backup would never work, my device would become sluggish, and all programs gave "not a valid windows ce app" even quickapp and start menu and tmail. uninstall cured the issues. flexilis seems pointless to me, what is a security threat anyways. they dont give any info on them.

With the previous Beta I had to disable both the Anti-Virus "and" the Attack Protection. That's due to the virus scanner still being a little slower. we've made great progress in speed here, but definitely have more room for improvement it seems. We're always working on speeding it up though, and on most devices it is quite speedy now.
Guest Flexilis Posted April 21, 2009 Report Posted April 21, 2009 Hi Nottach There are many things out there that fall under the realm of security threat. It can be something physical, like someone stealing your phone, to something not as physical, like someone performing a bluetooth attack on your device, exploiting the sms system, running a virus, or piece of spy software that sends your information home to the other party, and more. be sure if you have any troubles with flexilis to shoot us an email at support/at/flexilis/dot/com , and we'll take care of yoU! i also had major problems, backup would never work, my device would become sluggish, and all programs gave "not a valid windows ce app" even quickapp and start menu and tmail. uninstall cured the issues. flexilis seems pointless to me, what is a security threat anyways. they dont give any info on them.

I may try the next beta but this ones staying off my device.
Guest Flexilis Posted April 21, 2009 Report Posted April 21, 2009 Great feedback. Giving more details on that kind of stuff is definitely something we're working on for future releases! it would be nice if instead of just telling how many 'security treats' were handled we were also given specifics(file location, means of attack, urls communicated with...). Guest Nottach Posted April 21, 2009 Report Posted April 21, 2009 Great feedback. Giving more details on that kind of stuff is definitely something we're working on for future releases! while we're on the feedback tip here are some things that didn't make my experience enjoyable. BJ2, WM6.1. When I tried to back-up my info the progress bars never left 0%, I gave it about 30mins before canceling, and retrying, and canceling, other programs accessed the internet fine. Initial Virus Scan halted my device, extreme lag and unresponsiveness, battery pull was the only way to get out, second virus scan wasn't as bad. (0 viruses) After running for a while it would cause all hard-shortcut keys(power, messaging, cv, medianet, camera, rsk + lsk) and system apps(start, recent programs, tmail, quickapp...) to be "not valid windows ce app", this was really weird and I thought I was going to have to hard reset. Luckily upon uninstall of Flexilis the problem no longer existed. Hope it helps, I'm sure one day soon we most definitely will need anti-virus on our WM devices but I don't think that day has come yet. You guys will probably be on the front lines due to your early start.
