Thanks yeah... its call auto shutdown.. new function either from samsung or from microsoft... happening to me.. 3 to 4 times a day... especially with the wifi always on....
Guest lambi1982 Posted December 21, 2008 Report Posted December 21, 2008 I dont think it is auto shut down, I found that if you bump the omnia on its side it shuts off. happens to me at work all the time, I will take the phone out of my pocket and it will be off. i think it may be battery pins not having a very tight connection. I may very well be wrong, and it may be the turn off the device setting after 1 min option in bettery settings. ( i doubt it would power down the device though)

Guest krelvinaz Posted December 21, 2008 Report Posted December 21, 2008 (edited) It is amazing that anyone can respond to the original poster jonmck, about their problem in that they have not provided any relevant info about the issue. No mention of which Omnia, what version of ROM, if they are even using WiFi to begin with, what software they may have loaded... etc.. Yet people are already suggesting that the problem is with WiFi, they need to upgrade their Rom etc... As for updating the Rom, that might be true if you had an i900... but clearly not for the i910 as their are no Roms available for that version of Omnia yet. Imagine the poor fool that tries to flash their i910 with an i900 Rom... I personally, have not had this issues and get both SMS and Reminders at any time of the day. I am using the stock Rom on my i910 and rarely use WiFi. I've never observed my Omnia shut off at anytime. Edited December 21, 2008 by krelvinaz
Guest Master_Axe Posted December 21, 2008 Report Posted December 21, 2008 @ krelivanz I speak for myself- I had no clue there was a difference between i910 or i900, let alone knew there were two different ones. And I espeicially have no clue what ROM i'm using. I have observed, however, that my phone likes to die if i have wifi on, and leafe my university. Whats the difference between i910 and i900 anyways?

Thanks I have exactly the same problem : my Omnia "shutdown" sometimes (after a call, or after turning off the screen with a short press on top button). Sometimes it's possible to turn it on after long press on the top button, in that case the Omnia start up like if I made a shutdown (or reset), and sometimes it's impossible to start-up the phone except removing the battery and then long press on the top button. It happens when wifi is OFF, also sometimes when I bump the phone (but I'm not sure this is the reason), and I don't think so that there is a problem with the battery contacts. My ROM (french Bouygues operator) is : Pocket = i900XHHH8/AGHH4 Phone = i900XXHH9 Does ROM update suppress this problem ? UPDATE : I have seen that someone had this problem and solved it by deplacing cache directory of OPERA for having more memory (he said that since he has more memory, he doesn't have this problem anymore...) Guest emre toprak Posted December 22, 2008 Report Posted December 22, 2008 maybe one solution windows mobile 6.5
Guest krelvinaz Posted December 22, 2008 Report Posted December 22, 2008 Whats the difference between i910 and i900 anyways? The i910 is the Verizon US version of the Samsung Omnia that use CDMA. The i900 is the GSM version of the Samsung Omnia that was released outside of the US (Europe and Asia) While similar in appearance and software capabiltieies, the i900 has been out for much longer and has a wide number of custom ROM's available for it. Something that you should only do after you have read about the possible risks of those types of changes (look up, I bricked my phone).

After analysing the situation when my Omnia shut down, I can say that it's a battery problem. Often, when it happens, I have the battery hotter (sometimes very hot), and is empty even if the battery was full few mn before, and sometimes battery becomes full again after the problem. I think the memory is not the problem (now I have lot of free memory and still have the problem), and may be a different ROM has a better battery management ? Anyway, I suggest to replace the battery or change the phone if still under warranty. I'm not sure because I haven't changed battery yet, but it seems to be logical...
Guest rkay Posted March 20, 2009 Report Posted March 20, 2009 it's a hardware issue, when i drop my phone from a height of 2 cm it shut's down, tryed it a million times. It must be a manufacturing error. sorry for my english. Klemen
