Guest jamesjames_ Posted December 21, 2008 Report Posted December 21, 2008 Hi everyone! I am new with WM phones and I bought my Omnia a month ago, so I would like to ask some questions about the video captured by Omnia. Is there any possibility for increasing the fps in VGA resolution? A s far as I know it's limited to 15fps, which is really low. Is it possible breaking this limitation with new ROM, or special software for the camera, or new camera driver, allowing capturing video at least with 25fps? And is there option for increasing the resolution above VGA? The other question is about my own device. I have pretty much noise when recording video. The sound quality is really low and this noise makes me mad. Any solution? I'm using PDA DXHJ1/DXHJ1 and PHONE DXHH3 if this matters. Thank you all in advance
Guest jamesjames_ Posted December 22, 2008 Report Posted December 22, 2008 Isn't there anyone who can help me with my questions? I've searched the forum but can't find the answers...
Guest somedude Posted December 22, 2008 Report Posted December 22, 2008 I want the camera to be better too. My previous phone was a LG Viewty(which took really good video at 30 fps) so going from that to this is a huge disappointment.
Guest Luci Posted December 22, 2008 Report Posted December 22, 2008 I want the camera to be better too. My previous phone was a LG Viewty(which took really good video at 30 fps) so going from that to this is a huge disappointment. Some data on Omnia video recording: 320x240 at 30 fps 640x480 at 20 fps , in dark conditions this goes down to 10-20 fps. Made some comparisons with Xperia X1 and Touch HD. Video Picture quality of Omnia at 640x480 is razor sharp , bitrate of 1.5 mbps on Omnia, 400 kpbs on Xperia (very blurry) Touch HD, 5-15 fps, very blurry pictures and max resolution of 320x240 Omnia beats them all at 320x240 Xperia and Omnia tie at 640x480, Omnia has much better picture, Xperia has higher more stable frame-rate(30) Sound: they all use AMR at 8KHz sample-rate, an even worse quality is not possible  Look at this video shot with Omnia and good sound, also recorded with Omnia simultaneously, but external Mic connected to headset. Sound is perfect, video is almost, but comes very close ! Wait a few months/years for the newest devices and it will all be perfect. I'm not sure if an increase in frame-rate is possible with ROM update, could well be a hardware limitation from the sensor perhaps. I'm also not sure if ever one manufacturer was able to, or did, increase the frame-rate of video recording during the life-cycle of a device. Is there 1 ? Sound can be improved by several measures, let me know and i can give you some more details.
Guest jamesjames_ Posted December 22, 2008 Report Posted December 22, 2008 Sound can be improved by several measures, let me know and i can give you some more details. I would gladly appreciate your help 'coz the sound of videos taken by my phone is really bad... And as far as I know there is possibility of breaking fps limitation for example many people claim that there is camera driver for SE k850i which allows capturing video with 35fps. I've heard about resolution increase in Motorola ZN5. But I'm not 100% sure these are true. Anyway give me some advice for sound quality in videos taken by the phone please  Thank you!

I believe it could help.. Maybe we can also tweak the sound bitrate (or even codec) that way ? Other ideas ? Thanks for the valuable infos

Concerning sound ,this might sound a bit technical but i see no other way in explaining :) : We always dissect the audio performance of selected PDA's for our purposes (pro broadcast applications, http://luci.eu ) and during the years gathered some interesting data on several types of PDA's. Some data on the Omnia: - internal Mic has a +20dB peak at about 9 KHz, this sounds really terrible when you record with high sample-rates like 44.1 KHz. On a video recording with standard Camera-app however they use only 8 KHz sample-rate so you won't hear that. This peak however can easily be filtered away with some good parametric EQ, the resulting quality can actually be quite good. Samsung doesn't do that sadly. - Noise level on video recordings with Camera app can be high due to the AMR compression trying to compress background sounds picked up by the omnidirectional internal Mic. - Using an external Mic when you record 44.1KHz, 16-bit audio, you will have a 70dB dynamic range at -34 dBU full scale input-sensitivity. This is actually very good ! Noise-wise with the standard camera-app , best way to go is connecting an external directional Mic to the headset input so it won't pick-up too much background sounds. Besides the special cables we make there sadly are no standard ways of doing that. But then still, the sound-"quality"of the audio on the video with the camera-app is something that a radio from the 1930's would be ashamed of. Luckily Windows Mobile offers another way for app-writers to record video , using only the video-part of the standard Camera-app. The app used to record the example video mentioned earlier, records audio uncompressed at 44.1 KHz, 16-bit , simultaneously with the video. You have to use high-speed SD-cards then however, like sandisk mobile ultra. If you like you can become a beta-tester. Hacking the camera-app would be perfect, if it's possible. This could give you a more modern audio-quality. So, it's not the audio-electronics that's the problem, it's a pure software-issue. Maybe in a few years time we're all happily recording HD-video at 30 fps, but i bet the sound will then be 1950's ...
Guest mantrac Posted February 27, 2009 Report Posted February 27, 2009 Hello Luci. I've been reading your post with regards to the application you've written which records video only from the camera app and high quality audio separately and I was wondering if there would be any chance in trying it out? I have an XPeria X1i. I have PM'd you my e-mail address and I would appreciate it if you could contact me to try it out. Kind regards
Guest lambi1982 Posted March 10, 2009 Report Posted March 10, 2009 (edited) I found that in HKCU/Software/Samsung/Camera if you change VideoSize to 1653 you can now record 400x240 video. 1652=640x480 1653=400x240 1654=320x240 1655=176x144 I will try out other settings to see what changes NOTE* settings in camera will still show last setting 640x480-176x144 ** 400x240 runs at 30fps widescreen posted by Lambi1982/NuclearEMP Edited March 10, 2009 by lambi1982

Guest chokia Posted March 11, 2009 Report Posted March 11, 2009 (edited) But 400x240 is still WQVGA which is lower resolution than VGA. Anyway here is my tips to take acceptable video with good audio quality in VGA 20fps 1. Less or slower your camera movement, Use tripod if u will. 2. Off the audio recording option in video mode 3. Install 3rd party Audio recorder (i.e Vito Notes Touch, set menu button to activate quick audio recording) 4. Then combine the audio and video with Omnia Video Editor or doit in PC with any video editing software like Microsoft Movie Maker *Note: Vito Notes Touch can work while video recording is ON. (Simulteneously), Omnia video editor not really receommended coz video and audio quality it produces is quite low. Edited March 11, 2009 by chokia

I have only been able to get the vga recording to max out at 14.914fps (no sound, focus B/W ) I did however notice that when adjusting the VBR settings for encoding I have been able to get a smoother motion with only 14.9fps. (avg 115 - 200kbps audio/video) My Goals for camera app as of now are: (some or all may never be possible) 1. Panorama HQ mode 2. full SLOW-Motion frame capture playing at 30fps (it converts video to 14-15fps while extending time) 3. 24+ fps on VGA or other non-native resolution 4. 40X optical ZOOM with Thermal imaging optics @1000FPS 1080p and maybe XRAY :( sorry got ahead of myself B) 5. also but not not a goal would be to have panorama mode allow blocks instead of strips 4x4 Edited March 21, 2009 by lambi1982

A solution would be very handy. There is actually a solution I posted somewhere but basically the issue is with M2D. If you have opened the pictures and video tab at any point since a soft reset, you will get this error when you try to record video. The only way round it I found was to make sure the location that the M2D tab shows is different to the default location the camera records to. EG/ Set the location in the Camera app to record to \My Storage and set M2D to use \Storage Card\My Pictures as the default. I wrote a mortscript which called the camera app then, when it closed, moved all pictures and videos from the camera recording location to the one that M2D looks at. I then put a shortcut to that mortscript in \Windows\Start Menu\Programs which let me assign it to the camera button. Hope that helps

Guest 3shirts Posted April 19, 2009 Report Posted April 19, 2009 (edited) You think you can hook someone up with that mortscript? :-) :-) Here it is. Very simple really. Obviously you'll need to change the locations if you use different ones yourself (and you need to make sure you have mortscript installed) RunWait("\Windows\Camera.exe") move "Storage Card\DCIM\100SSCAM\*.*","Storage Card\Pictures\" move "Storage Card\DCIM\101SSCAM\*.*","Storage Card\Pictures\" [/codebox] The last line is kinda unnecessary actually but may be of use if you do some kind of mammoth shooting session and take over 100 pictures in one sitting! As I say, I made a shortcut to this script in the Start Menu as that then lets you assign the camera button to it with the normal 'Button' config in settings. Set the HTC album default to Storage Card\Pictures (or whatever you choose) and after that, the whole process is nice and silent.CamforM2D.zip Edited April 19, 2009 by 3shirts
