Guest sahil6543 Posted December 24, 2008 Report Posted December 24, 2008 I have Samsung IP 830 W cellphone. (The Samsung IP-830w is a dual-mode CDMA/GSM phone for use domestically and overseas. The smart phone also features Windows Mobile 5, Bluetooth, and EV-DO support.) http://reviews.cnet.com/smartphones/samsun...7-32069612.html I will appreciate if some body can help me in two problems. I have power vison/data plan from sprint and i can access unlimited internet. 1. I want to connect this phoe to my laptop for internet sharing. This phone does not have any internet sharing icon. Is there any way i can connect this phone through USB cable to my laptop and use internet on laptop. (I do not want to subscribe for Phone as modem becuase for that I have to change my plan) 2. Is there any way I can Unlock this phone to use GSM facility in Asian countries. I can only use GSM service from Sprint which is very costly. However I want to use local simcards. Let me know if somebody has any answer. Thanks
Guest awarner (MVP) Posted December 30, 2008 Report Posted December 30, 2008 As long as you have a SIM card the phone should work on other networks that use the GSM 900/1800 network bands. You may need to ask SPRINT to unlock the phone but tell then it is for use when overseas. As for using the phone for data, you may find with data usage your network could block or charge for using the phone as a modem unless you change your service agreement.

As for using the phone for data, you may find with data usage your network could block or charge for using the phone as a modem unless you change your service agreement. The point of this ( from Sprint's point of view) was that the sprint customer could for once take their CDMA phone outside the US and actually use it on a GSM network. From reports it should have been supplied with a 'universal' simcard that needs activiating thru sprint to then work worldwide so I doubt they will give an unlock code 'to use it worldwide' as that defeats the purpose of the sim.....they WANT you to use it via sprint worldwide so are not going to let you unlock it easily..... Besides, as CDMA phones aren't locked they probably do not have the facilites in place to provide unlock codes. M.S
