i910 Touch Player

Hey guys,

My new i910 is my first WinMo phone, so I'm pretty much a WinMo noob. I like it, but one of the biggest problems I have with it is that the Samsung Touch Player is terrible. My problem with it is that unlike when you're browsing through your contacts, when you're trying to scroll through the list of artists there is no bar on the right side of the screen that lets you scroll alphabetically. That makes getting to the end of the list way more time consuming than necessary. My question is, is there a way to get that bar to show up, or is there a better program to put on my phone for listening to music?

Thanks for your time.

You can try the Window Media player on the phone (comes with it)

or as an option look into CorePlayer.

I don't play music on my phone most of the time so its not an issue for me and I bought the CorePlayer.

well, the thing about Windows Media Player is that it's not very finger touch friendly. You really need to use the stylus when using it, and I'd rather not have to do that. From the screenshots I saw for CorePlayer, the same applies for that too.

Just get slide 2 play. It is hands down the best mp3 player program for windows mobile. It emulates the iphone music player down to a t, i love the coverflow!

Slide2play is not good at all.... lots of bugs and crashes specially in portrait mode... just get a big button skin for ur windows media player it will help a lot.....

S2P doesnt crash for me, though I agree about using a large button WMP skin, however, IMO the best app for MP3 in terms of sound quality is Pocket Music and it has large buttons and heaps of bass, since our Omnia cant use SRSWOWHD Pocket Music is the next best thing.

I am new to the whole world of WinMo as well. Could you direct me to some sites to get these WMP skins? Is there a specific site just for mobile phones with installation instruction too? Havinig the i910 for 2 1/2 weeks has shown me that this device is REALLY particular when it comes to apps and such. Thanks.

This device has the potential to be outstanding, but I am finding, in the short term, that little things like this are minor irritants. In touch Palyer I make a playlist (which took me goo gobs of time to figure out how to do). I search by the artist an hit play. Alphabetical filing is a pipe dream. Let me ask you this. Even though import all my songs through Windows Media Player, and the cover art is there, it does not show up in Touch Player...hmmmm. Am I the only one who has this problem?

Try out Kinoma Play and you will never look back.

Pocket player is the absolute best. Unfortunately its slow on the omnia. Try setting the cpu priority lower (if you plan on using other apps along with the music) and raise the memory settings to max. I listened to the beatles for three hours on the plane today, touch player worked fine. WMP sucks, and core play is meh. Pocket player 4 just came out, download it and try it...im doing it right now !

Being new to this and already getting burned, I am trying to start off with a proven app or solution before I start tweaking anything. However, I will look into your suggstion. Thanks.

Hmmm...I will relate my experiences.

Pocket Player is decent. It has nice finger friendly buttons and is easy to use. The only problem I have with it is that I absolutely love (for some strange reason) to see the album covers on my player. I guess I just grew up in the album age. Pocket Player doesn't have a skin that supports album artwork (at least not when I used it).

Windows Media Player has a very nice finger friendly skin but it doesn't work on the Omnia. In fact, I haven't been able to get ANY skins to work on the Omnia. No matter where I put them when I search for skins in WMP it never finds them.

I like Touch player and use it now that I FINALLY figured out how to make playlists. I agree with an earlier poster that figuring out how to create playlists is ridiculously hard and Samsung should have at least included documentation in the help files for the Touch Player. But oh well, at least it works once you figure it out. Touch Player is stable, relatively finger friendly, and I have had no problem getting all of my album art to work with it. I simply had set up for WMP on my old phone all my music sorted by artist and then by album in folders. In each album folder I had the art in jpeg format entitled Folder.jpg (you MUSt capitalize the F in Folder).

When I got my Omnia, I just switched my micro SD card into the Omnia slot and Touch Player seems to have automatically converted all of the Folder.jpg stuff into picture files that it stores in the Windows directory.

In any event, the coverflow view on TP works pretty well...I like it.

S2P I wanted to like. I love S2u2. But frankly, as AC admits in his documentation, if you have a lot of songs and a lot of cover art, you will crash the program or it will run very slowly in coverflow mode. For me S2P was so buggy I had to get rid of it.

So, in conclusion, of all of the free players I have tried I still like the Omnia TP the best.

I'd never used it before yesterday so I'm no expert, but PocketPlayer 4 does support album art. It does a great job of it too.
