i seem to have a problem with my phone that i had originally chalked up to the battery being a bit loose

my phone seems to randomly shut off, and to turn it back on i have to take the battery out and put it back in.

i remembered seeing a post on here about that problem, but i cant seem to find it- so im reaching out for any insight into this problem.

thanks!

Hey mate, I had the same problem 3 times. I had called someone or someone called me and after that the screen was black and i had to take battery out and put it back in to start the phone. Should be under warranty right or they should at least fix it somehow?

please make sure you did not mess with any of the settings such as powersave wifi or anything else. I had this problem when I first got it. Havent had a problem since with factory settings after I reset it....

I had the same problem.

Someone said it's because of some wifi or etiquette setting. I reset my omnia three times and tried everything but the problem still existed.

However, after the first two weeks, when i was just about to return it, the problem is gone by itself.

I have exactly the same problem on my i900.

It seems to be a memory problem (not enough memory ?).

It happened in many different configurations, but I can say that some users don't have this problem because they have another ROM (so it would confirm the problem of memory). I have less problems since I moved the opera cache to "my memory". But sometimes it still happens. I had the problem also when the screen is rotating...

I think the good solution is to change the ROM with a "good" ROM (mau be lighter).

Anyway, I will inform Samsung on it's web site, and if everybody do that, may be they will find the bug ?

I had a similar problem, and they kept telling me it was memory as well.

I finally figured out that I had a defective phone. If I thumped (not hard, just sharp) the bottom back of the phone, it would just shut down. It wasn't the battery connections, as I could mess with the battery or hit it all day long and it would be fine. As soon as I found the right spot, down it would go. My new one doesn't have the problem, so I assume it was just a QC issue. The phone was only 10 days old, and had never been dropped (I watched the guy remove the plastic from the box when I went to get it.

I had similar problems when I used factory setting with official ROM

Ironically I have problem free with M2D custom rom by pdaviet. (v09 Rom)

I think lots of samsung application modified WM 6.1 way more..

w/o whole samsung applications, I have no problem at all now.

I got a response from Samsung about my phone, unfortunately it was not the response I wanted. They are not willing to repair/replace the phone without a receipt from a store, which I dont have because I bought it from an eBay individual... I dont think I will be leaving this alone seeing as how many people have the problem and Samsung has to know about it. They are just sweeping me under the rug and hoping I don't put up a fight.

any other suggestions?

After analysing the situation when my Omnia shut down, I can say that it's a battery problem. Often, when it happens, I have the battery hotter (sometimes very hot), and is empty even if the battery was full few mn before, and sometimes battery becomes full again after the problem.

I think the memory is not the problem (now I have lot of free memory and still have the problem), and may be a different ROM has a better battery management ? Anyway, I suggest to replace the battery or change the phone if still under warranty.

I'm not sure because I haven't changed battery yet, but it seems to be logical...

well everyone, i just wanted to check back in and let you all know that i have diagnosed the problem. unfortunately its the answer i was afraid of.

i have had zero problems since i uninstalled SPB mobile shell from the phone. so my guess is that it was some sort of memory issue with the shell running.

either way im glad my phone works perfectly now, but i miss spb mobile shell.
