Guest toyonohoshi Posted December 28, 2008 Report Posted December 28, 2008 recently I bought an OMNIA from SoftBank a Japanese company... It's a little bit different from the eropian or asian OMNIA 900i ...anyhow what I wanna say is I'm having problems with connecting it to the PC It came with no USB cable so I bouth one that could be used for many SoftBank phons... I downloaded the Samsung PC studio 3 and Microsoft activesync. and Samsung Modem xp and still can't get my Omnia connected to my PC... Also the software is different from that on 900i is there a way to install some application like dictionaries ,,,normally on it as in 900i ?!? or is there a way to change the whole software... PLZ HELP
Guest bpivk Posted December 28, 2008 Report Posted December 28, 2008 I have a feeling that you don't have an omnia but some sort of omnia-like phone that just looks like omnia. It would help if you could give us a link to your phone so that we can look at the specifications.
Guest Vanilla Star Sky 08 Posted December 28, 2008 Report Posted December 28, 2008 its out?! i thought softbank just announced it the usb cable that you are talking about, that can be used for many softbank phones... are you sure it works with samsung phones?! cuz softbank have a lot phone from SE, nokia, samsung, sharp not sure if they all have the same plug and the 930sc is pretty recent so yeah and how comes it didnt came with a usb cable?!
Guest toyonohoshi Posted December 29, 2008 Report Posted December 29, 2008 here is the link to the official website http://mb.softbank.jp/mb/en/product/3g/930sc/ yesterday I tried to format the Micro SD using the phone I copied some MP3 and WMA files to it many different folders the phone could read the folders name only but not the files inside
Guest mobilehappy Posted December 29, 2008 Report Posted December 29, 2008 Its not the same as Omnia by any stretch, its actually closer to the T*Omnia but even then it differs due to that the Japanese version do not use Windows Mobile but a proprietary Samsung OS.
Guest Ingvarr Posted December 29, 2008 Report Posted December 29, 2008 (edited) Softbank 930sc is not the phone of Samsung i900 family, its completely different one. Let not the similar appearance and "OMNIA" in name fool you. Its not using the Windows Mobile OS, so its not even technically a smartphone. So this forum (which is about i900) will hardly help you... Guest toyonohoshi Posted December 29, 2008 Report Posted December 29, 2008 WTF... you mean that i've been cheated by those Japanese :) is there a way to change the OS to Windows Mobile???
Guest tibor28 Posted December 29, 2008 Report Posted December 29, 2008 (edited) WTF... you mean that i've been cheated by those Japanese :) is there a way to change the OS to Windows Mobile??? It should have windows mobile 6.1 installed unless its some kind of chinese fake ripoff. Here is an article about it. Its the same as the korean T*omnia: "SoftBank 930SC Samsung Omnia has mobile TV receiver and WVGA screen. Japanese Samsung Omnia, SoftBank 930SC Omnia, will come with a 3.3 inches touchscreen display (0.1-inch larger than the original 3.2 inches) with WVGA resolution - 480×800 pixels, and a built-in 1-Seg mobile TV receiver, Windows Mobile 6.1, a 5 MP autofocus camera and 8GB of internal memory." http://www.multicellphone.com/softbank-930...nd-wvga-screen/ Almost zero chance. It even have a different hardware - no optical mouse for example (just a button instead of it). Always check the detailed specs on phone before you buy. You obviously dont know what phone you are talking about, right? Its the same as T*omnia and it comes with windows mobile preinstalled. Here is a pic of it: Edited December 29, 2008 by tibor28

Always check the detailed specs on phone before you buy. This old article is wrong. It was from early source when some thought that it will have WM. Look at interface screenshots on official website, its not WM, not even close. Edited December 29, 2008 by Ingvarr
Guest Ingvarr Posted December 29, 2008 Report Posted December 29, 2008 (edited) You obviously dont know what phone you are talking about, right? Its the same as T*omnia and it comes with windows mobile preinstalled. Here is a pic of it: I obviously exactly know what phone I am talking about. Its not T-omnia, softbank 930SC Omnia is a different phone. Its similar looking, but its different. Read official specs on official site and try to find where it does say anything about having WM preinstalled or possible to install. "TouchWIZ" is just an umbrella name for several same-looking Samsung UIs, some of which use WM, some are not. Edited December 29, 2008 by Ingvarr
Guest toyonohoshi Posted December 29, 2008 Report Posted December 29, 2008 IT exactly as Invgarr says it's a different from 900i no optical mouse...no windows mobile... I went today to softbank office and ask them to install WM for me but they refused  and I asked them about installing other third party applications like some dictionaries or an MP3 player and they say u can't do it..... :) and then I was very angry and I told them to cancel my contract...and also they said u can't do that so right now I'm stuck with a phone tha work as a good camera..with touch screen....only I mean this sucks....plz help me to fined a way to change the OS even I can't connect it to my PC via USB cable WTF <_<
Guest bpivk Posted December 29, 2008 Report Posted December 29, 2008 Im really sorry but i doubt that you can change this phone to windows mobile. This is not a computer and i don't think that it can be done. That's just like trying to change symbian smartphones to windows mobile.

I haven't found a way to install Windows Mobile on a non-Windows Mobile device, and I have been looking for awhile (when I was thinking of getting the LG Renoir or Samsung Pixon). Mobile Operating Systems are not like computer Operating Systems, yet, and probably won't be intill Android starts making its way to more and more devices. Edited December 30, 2008 by liamwolf
