Guest sponrob Posted December 28, 2008 Report Posted December 28, 2008 So, my inventive mind decided the string attached stylus was lame, why not physically attach differently? See attached picture. Simply remove the phones metal ringlet on top left side of phone. Then i sanded a flat spot on the stylus chrome cap. Next i used a 2 part 5 minute epoxy, and glued the cap where the string used to attach on phone. Let cure for an hour to be sure. Also, the black plastic bulbous tip of the stylus, i filed slightly down, so entry and exit into the cap is not as hard. Works for me great!

Its definitely a very useful mod but doesnt look very aesthetic, srry. But as long as it works fine for you, well done! Edited December 28, 2008 by tibor28

Guest Devin C Posted December 29, 2008 Report Posted December 29, 2008 When I first switched to my Omnia I was very attached to the stylus. But I came to realize that the whole raison d'etre behind the phone is to use your finger. So why even bother with the stylus? Yeah, I carry it in my case and use it to occasionally soft reset and if I want to draw something in VS Painter LE, but that's about it. I just don't think the stylus is integral enough to the phone's experience to both epoxying it to the side of the phone. Devin
Guest SpiritRC Posted December 29, 2008 Report Posted December 29, 2008 This case has a stylus slot. Slap on a protective screenie and you're good to go. ADVERTING SPAM Omnia Case IMO that case looks lots uglier than the stylus glued to the phone body.
Guest nexvision Posted December 29, 2008 Report Posted December 29, 2008 IMO that case looks lots uglier than the stylus glued to the phone body. Def not my cup o' tee but glad u got it working to your liking. The general consensus from everyone of the samsung reps I have talked to is the reason it is attached via string is they do not expect people to use it past a week. Maybe it wouldnt be so bad on top or bottom just looks weird on the side to me.
Guest Pete2 Posted December 29, 2008 Report Posted December 29, 2008 I brought a leather case from ebay which has a slot for a stylus in it that fits the old one from my htc trinity perfectly. It cost me £5.98 inc postage and was shipped from hong kong. I've attached a picture of it (minus the omnia as that was taking the photo).
Guest meabigbaldguy Posted December 30, 2008 Report Posted December 30, 2008 I thought the stylus tethered to the phone looked tacky! I can't even begin to imagine the damn thing glued to the phone. At least when it was only tethered it could easily be removed, but with epoxy any option for removal goes right out the window without damaging the shell in some way. Whatever floats your boat... but at least you appear to be sailing... for now. FYI, after a few days of practice, you would soon discover that using your finger would have been more than sufficient. In addition, using a nice full screen keyboard, such as SPB keyboard, would have bettered those efforts. I nearly forgot I even had a stylus until I saw this thread.
Guest pollorodrig Posted February 24, 2009 Report Posted February 24, 2009 I recently I buy my omnia, And I see not every one when they buy they omnia get all the acc. in particular I get a plenty of acc. include: tv out cable, lether case, 2 stylus one slim and the other is to hang on the phone, earphones with replacement, two disc, data cable, and power cable. But in particular I see not every one talks about the lether case with stylus integrated, this case and styus was the solution

I currently have my stylus on my keychain, which does and doesn't get in the way. I rarely use it, but would love to have an option like pollorodrig has with the slide in case with the tie-clip stylus to go with it. Having purcashed my Omnia from Verizon, it of course didn't come with all of th extras like yours did. Has anyone seen a case like this, horizontal style preferred but not needed. Stir

Stir I think if I had in on my keyring, instead of going to the trouble of taking it out of the holder and extending (which now is one motion), I would just use a key (which I've done when frustrated with my finger). :( Ted

Using a key is the way to go (just make sure you've got a decent screen protector). I also use a pen (with the ink ball retracted) all the time.
Guest necosino Posted July 21, 2009 Report Posted July 21, 2009 (edited) ROFL, ty for reviving this, I had never seen it before! This is funny.. gluing the stylus cap.. lol... Sorry, but I really am laughing! ;) I keep my stylus on my keychain, and haven't used it since we first got WinMo 6.5 ROMS :D Edited July 21, 2009 by necosino
Guest semmtexx Posted July 21, 2009 Report Posted July 21, 2009 Umm yeah just flash to a 6.5 rom or just use fingersuite for crying out loud. Don't ruin your device like that.
Guest new2city Posted July 21, 2009 Report Posted July 21, 2009 (edited) Had the same idea when I first got my Omnia last year but never got to doing the mod as I felt that no glue could hold the stylus to the phone. Glad to know that I am not alone in my weird world. However, in the end, I found like most guys here, we can live without a stylus with Omnia. But, we occassionally will need one available for some still non finger friendly apps out there. For this, a modified guitar pick(I sharpened one tip so that it can fit into the reset button hole) can be a viable replacement for the stylus which can be put into the back cover with the battery. I put this behind my hard rubber case though. If you don't like DIY, just http://www.triforce.se/ cheers and thanks for sharing the idea though. Edited July 21, 2009 by new2city
Guest rmac Posted July 21, 2009 Report Posted July 21, 2009 I would've just figured they'd put a micro stylus in like the old style antennae that the early 2000 phones had. Telescopic with a 1-2mm diameter and it'd slide right into the phone (assuming they could pack whats inside any tighter). I think the stylus is mainly used to reset the device, in which case, they could've came out with one an inch long or so. Probably the biggest design flaw this phone had anyway. They should've occupied the real estate from the loop that 90% of us don't use with some functionality.

Guest aceofrazgriz Posted July 22, 2009 Report Posted July 22, 2009 A good idea indeed. But this phone was meant to not be used with a stylus and with good settings and a lil practice you can toss that stylus out. But heres a funny note: i JUST realized the stylus came apart like that and that it has a smaller tip to be used haha. i never bothered with the thing, but u can still laugh at my ignorance!
Guest Bouvrie Posted July 22, 2009 Report Posted July 22, 2009 I got Brando's Rubberized hard backcase. It comes with a built-in stylus and adds a little bit of length to the bottom of the phone which IMO makes it easier to hold when using the keyboard one-handed. Here is a review.
Guest Zealster Posted July 22, 2009 Report Posted July 22, 2009 I never use a stylus and have never had any big frustrations besides those stupid "ok" or "x" buttons in the top right corner. I think this phone was meant to be touched by your finger. But the OP's image looks like the stylus might break off if he put it in his pocket!

Does this fit the i910? Looks cool but in the description on the website it only mentions i900 and i908 just want to make sure they are all the same size.

Alternatively, check this thread. Seems like others have it applied to the i910? ;) Edited July 22, 2009 by Bouvrie

Guest tmc-nc Posted August 19, 2009 Report Posted August 19, 2009 I play guitar, so I usually have a pick sitting around to use for a stylus, but I just stuck a pick holder on my phone so I wouldn't have to look for one. Works nicely and it's black. I wouldn't recommend typing much with picks, but it is an "off the shelf" super cheap solution. The holders have an adhesive backing and hold a few of them. I put it up near the camera on the back, so it's naturally tilted towards me a bit when I set it down flat.
