Headset Adapter - Turn Off Speaker

I bought a new unlocked Blackjack II and I can't use wired headset with it. I upgraded to WinMo 6.1 as soon as I got the phone and installed the MoDaCo Tweak Pack. Everything works great except for connecting a wired headset to the phone. I tried a set of Samsung wired earphones and could not get audio routed to the earphones, the speaker remained on. I also tried a Samsung 3.5mm adapter with a set of regular earphones connected but couldn't get sound out of the earphones either. There's nothing in the phone manual about hooking up a wired headset so I assume audio should be routed automatically. Am I missing something?
