Well, for a start, I'd advise not using 3 Mobile broadband if you want a nice life. I have a lot of experience with different plans, different areas, different dongles with different people all on the 3 network, all of which, without exception have ended in tears.

As for the system, certainly go for the 1GB RAM upgrade, maybe a HDD if you need it, go for a an nLited version of Windows XP that you make yourself from the supplied CD, and put Mac OSX 10.5.6 (if You don't mind using Mac).

I tried Vista on my Akoya (essentially the same system) and there were a lot of problems, mostly that it would freeze for minutes at a time, and the screen didn't refresh properly (power settings box on taskbar didn't close when you click away), but I can't vouch for how it would run with an extra GB of RAM. Personally I'd say although it can run it, it won't be nice, and wont be enjoyable, I'd blame the CPU really because it's lacking power, so not much we can do.

I'm going to do something I wouldn't normally, and extraoplate from your post that you aren't a linux user so won't sugest trying a linux distro as well.

All I'll say is install XP first, partition however you want (i use gparted on a linux live cd) then install OSX, and the Darwin (OSX) bootloader will handle the dualboot nicely, without the whole Xp/Darwin bootloader cycle problem.

Unfortunately I can't recommend any alternatives either for wireless broadband because I have only had experience with 3 mobile broadband (I'm the family/friend expert hotline for computer problems, so always trying to sort the things out) other than that, I tried a T-Mobile one and that didn't work either.

P.S. I don't see such a huge future for WinMo, times change, and Android is the new place to be.

been lookin threw web and youtube seems 2gb runs xp, ubuntu, vista, hackintosh fine

new msi wind bios seems to have sorted most problems out

i have an amd athlon xp 1900+ 1.47ghz, 1279 ram, 128 ddr2 card, sata harddrive maxtor even and it scores 2.6 on vista ultimate system rating

advent 4211 scores 2.7 with driver and bios update

http://www.4winmobile.com/forums/netbook/1...erformance.html

so seems extra ram and updates improves wind ore whatever quite a bit

with regards 3 dongle had it a month now and its been a joy.

have my 3 n95 on gsm network all the time and i have not a dropped call yet, full signal everywere

p.s i think the new bios may have fixed wifi problems too, but some people have just replaced the wifi card in it
