Hi. Installed Garmin navigation on my omnia, but i cant get signal. At first, the program couldnt locate my gps chip at all, after playing a bit with settings, now garmin detects gps, but no matter how much time i give, it just wont get any signal. I tried with extra enabled, extra disabled, nothin'.. Now im starting to think that that might be hardware problem, so is there any way I could check is my gps chip still ok ?

hm, are you *positive* it doesn't get a signal *outside*?

It is, in my case at least, completely necessary to be outside.

Yeah, I put my phone in garden for ~ half an hour, and nothing.

hmmmmmm OK just to check that the GPS is actually working, open Google maps and tick the "Use GPS" option and then shove the phone in the garden, if the phone get's a GPS lock you know it's a software setup issue for Garmin and it requires some friggin around.

If Google doesn't get any GPS locks there is something wrong with your phone or it's configuration that may need a closer look!!!!!

Google only takes about 30seconds tops for my phone to get a lock of 8-9 sats!

had the same problem. there is registry edit that u have to do to change the server of XTRA download, because as default the server address is test.agps.com:7275 and this server is dead for sure. there is a thread here where it explains where and how to do this registry edit.

after that u have to open the enhanced gps and enable XTRA and click on the XTRA download. it is best if u connect ur omnia via wifi or via activesync or mobile device manager to a computer connected to the internet as gprs connections may cost quite a bit.

the hour glass will run for a few seconds up to a minute then will dissappear by itself, then it is done.

after that try again the GPS in garmin. u should get a fix within some seconds.

if this doesnt work then google beeline gps and download this program. it is a shareware and u can use it for 30 days, but u wont need it for longer. install the program and run it and wait for it to get a fix. after it gets a fix, exit it and run garmin again and see if there is any difference.

hope this helps. and one thing i am pretty sure that u dont have a hardware defect in the phone since the omnia works a bit differently that other PDAs with GPS.

good luck.

and sorry abt the post above, quoted the wrong msg.
