Guest msmouse999 Posted January 3, 2009 Report Posted January 3, 2009 I'm trying to save luggage space when travelling by having a single mains voltage to USB transformer which I can then use to charge any 5V devices. This works fine on my Nokia phones and other devices but not on the Omnia which simply appears to not connect to the power supply. I've tried 2 variations - one gives 400mAmps, the other 1000mAmps. Neither works. Any ideas will be much appreciated. Thanks.
Guest Yunabeco Posted January 3, 2009 Report Posted January 3, 2009 It's a system similar to the iPods; the device won't recharge through USB until it receives actual data instead of only raw power, if I'm not mistaken. So basically, only computers or special chargers/cables can recharge it. Which is a pain in the butt, unfortunately.
Guest Billou Posted January 3, 2009 Report Posted January 3, 2009 This USB cable is for recharge only http://cgi.ebay.fr/RETRACTABLE-USB-CHARGEU...%3A1|240%3A1318

No work on Omnia. It only has enough juice to keep the Omnia on and not use the battery. Not enough to charge battery. So I end up using the normal charger wall plug on it. Costco sells a slim version that has USB and normal wall plug. Same size as the WD passport HD. WOrks fine.

Thanks all - just me being thick now but that doesn't seem to make sense. The charger that comes with the phone uses the same port as the USB connector. The included charger obviously works. The phone also charges when it's connected to the PC via the USB using the supplied cable. I therefore can't understand why the set up that I'm trying doesn't work. I plug the non-Samsung transformer into the same power source as I would the Samsung charger. The output from my transformer is 5V (same as the Samsung) at 1000mA (higher than the Samsung) which I then feed through the USB cable - through which the phone charges fine when connected to the PC. The voltage is right. The current should be high enough. The cable is right. Something doesn't compute! Any ideas / explanation out there? It also sounds like the Costco item you mentioned is the same kinda thing that I am trying? I'm in Western Australia where there are no Costcos so I'm wondering if you could let me have some details so I can try and get a mail order if it's the right thing. Thanks again guys.

And it works. I have a solar usb charger and with this cable i can charge my omnia. No charging problems no more. Im very happy with it. :)

I read somewhere (the manual maybe?) that the omnia refuses to charge if it is connected to a non-samsung charger, maybe that's it?
Guest pinyon Posted January 27, 2009 Report Posted January 27, 2009 I haven't tried one since I'd like to find someone with experience but boxwave's cable has two connectors. One for sync and one for usb charging. http://www.boxwave.com/products/directsync...a-i900_3289.htm
