HTC and the 3 network

Hi,

I'm thinking of buying the HTC touch diamond but am concerned about whether or not it will work with an Irish three sim card. I know it will be unlocked and every shop I've gone into tells me it should work but three customer services keep telling me that 3 sims only work with three phones. Apologies if this is a silly question.
