Guest Posted January 3, 2009 Report Posted January 3, 2009 I am considering switching networks, does anyone in the UK have their omnia working on 3? If so what is their HSPDA service like? Currently on T-mobile and have unrestricted access to the whole internet. Is this the case for 3? Or is it restricted to facebook, skype etc. Thanks

Guest Posted January 4, 2009 Report Posted January 4, 2009 Omnia works on 3, although I intend to change to O2 shortly because the 3 switching in & out of 3g is appalling! Thanks, are you sure its the network that's the problem? I don't seem to be able to get a constant lock on 3G with my omnia either. I am in a very strong 3G area, and never had problems connecting here on other phones. Anyone got any answers to this?
Guest kmurder Posted January 5, 2009 Report Posted January 5, 2009 I have been using my voda branded omnia on three since i got it a few months ago, i have had no major problems at all. the only issue is that it wont let me access certain three content on 3 web pages (video, music downloads)

When you say it won't let you access certain 3 web pages, are the 3 pages the only ones you can access? Or do you have full acess to the internet?
Guest Neil5459 Posted January 5, 2009 Report Posted January 5, 2009 Thanks, I think I'll try them and cancel if I don't get on with it after a few days or so. When you say it won't let you access certain 3 web pages, are the 3 pages the only ones you can access? Or do you have full acess to the internet? You get full internet access with any 3G enabled phone on the 3 network. However, you can't access some of the customised Planet 3 content, which needs a genuine 3 branded device. Nor can you use 3's own Skype service whichis a hybrid of a GSM/VOIP system, and again limited to genuine 3 phones. I'm not sure if they allow normal Skype connections, orif they block that port.
Guest Neil5459 Posted January 5, 2009 Report Posted January 5, 2009 Omnia works on 3, although I intend to change to O2 shortly because the 3 switching in & out of 3g is appalling! I suspect that's an Omnia, rather then 3 problem. I've used my 3 SIM in a Diamond, X7500, X7510 and Advent 4213, and have seen no problems with GSM/3G/HSDPA/Roaming switching.

I've used my 3 SIM in a Diamond, X7500, X7510 and Advent 4213, and have seen no problems with GSM/3G/HSDPA/Roaming switching. You might be right, but I have always struggled on 3. Where I live I just barely get a 3g signal, but on any handset I have ever owned and used on 3 the network refuses to let go of the 3g signal even when it hasn't really got one. In other words it won't drop down to use a stronger non-3g signal, does that make sense? It's like it holds on to that 3g for too long and should switch over at an earlier stage.
Guest Posted January 5, 2009 Report Posted January 5, 2009 Thanks for the info. The skype hybrid is a very appealing idea for me. I don't expect they will allow us to use omnia's skype as it is very data intensive. T-mobile frowns and grumbles a lot whenever I try it. I am toying with the idea of selling my omnia...it has so many great features, but each of them is complicated with rather serious flaws.
Guest jd06 Posted January 17, 2009 Report Posted January 17, 2009 (edited) Can someone please post three internet settings so I can add them to my Omnia as i'm will be switching to them. Edited January 17, 2009 by jd06

Guest kheung Posted January 17, 2009 Report Posted January 17, 2009 hi everybody, I have the same problem as you have. I cannot use 3g in 3g network. I live in Vancouver under Rogers network. After I join the data plan, I have discovered that I can use EDGE, not 3g. Someone tells me that the 3g network in other country is different than the 3g network in North America. My Omnia was bought from Asia. That's why I think Omnia cannot work in NA even though I unlock the phone's network. I do not know what setting I can do. Or it might be that Rogers preprograms its own phone to work on its 3g network. Other phones not buying from Rogers cannot excess its 3g network. Carrier is always Vampireeeeeeeeeeee.
Guest SHIK1 Posted January 17, 2009 Report Posted January 17, 2009 (edited) thanks for this but what does it do???? i install it.. no change? Edited January 18, 2009 by SHIK1
Guest kheung Posted January 18, 2009 Report Posted January 18, 2009 thanks for this but what does it do???? i install it.. no change? I think Omnia can do everything under whatever network like my one except you can not go for high capacity like 3g network which means that you can use max. 200k/s not 1M/s. Actually it does not have 200k/s of course. I do not know how much speed EDGE can gives me. If you can not use it's function, just return it. <_< <_< <_<
Guest miko3d Posted January 18, 2009 Report Posted January 18, 2009 HI there, I can confirm that the Omnia works perfect on three UK, i have not issues with my 3g connection, but i have upgraded my rom so may be an idea to do so in case yours is a bit fleaky. Also to those interested in Skype, It works perfect, even the plane three version of free Skype works great by using iSkoot and editing the register to work with Three UK.
