Wifi affected by Operator/Carrier Settings?

just bought an omnia and flashed ROM to the newest dzhk3.

everything was working fine while in the US, however when i left for winter break the auto-configured internet settings by my local operator/carrier couldn't connect to the internet.

it can connect to the router without a problem, but there is no drop down menu for Connect to: (Internet, My Work, etc.)

the only way to get around this is to change the operator under Operator Settings.

it just seems weird to me that i had to choose another country's carrier to use wifi...

any help is appreciated!
