Guest kav Posted January 5, 2009 Report Posted January 5, 2009 HI, I have got my Omnia a few days ago and apparently it comes from singapore ( since the company which is located in eastern europe imports thier phones from there), anyways, i have been having huge headaches trying to make the gps work. installed IGO8 on it on a storage card and the program is running fine. Initially i had no sim card in the omnia and therefore i left the phone function off. For some reason , the igo software doesnt detect the gps receiver at all. and strangely enough, after inserting a sim card in the omnia, the igo says that the fone function is off and that it requires it to be turned on. well thought to give it a go as well, turned the fone on and ran igo8 again then this time it tries to connect on the gprs service. i dont understand why?? enhanced gps was deactivated all the way. then i took out the sim card then left the fone function on and ran igo8 again, then huge suprise it detects the gps receiver on all the COM ports at all baudrates when i tried the setting manually. tried autodetect, it finds the gps receiver on the first COM port it scans, sometimes on COM 0 as well. I'm going totally crazy with this. i left igo to run with these settings and try to get a fix for abt 20 min but it doesnt detect any satellites, not even the red dots(satellites which are not connected). Usually n WM devices when the gps chipset is in use, it shows a small icon on the top (next to the speaker, time etc... icons) mine doesnt show anything when i run iGO8 and minimise it. I started to think that there is no gps chipset in my device then thought of trying another gps software, treid installing GPS tuner v5, same problem, it doesnt pick up anything, no signal at all. the ROM i have is DXHH3 on Omnia i900 can anyone help with this problem that is driving me crazy? I really hope that there is no defect in the device as it is unbranded and in a way to say, my purse bleeded when i bought this phone

U need to be in connection to phone (sim card is MUST)

Guest kav Posted January 5, 2009 Report Posted January 5, 2009 Check your GPS settings; (Default Gps port: com 3, Default Bud rate: 4800) More reading found here! Default gps port COM 3, u mean hardware port or program port? in my settings it is set to: Program port COM3 Hardware Com port 9 baud rate 4800. manage gps automatically is checked besides many people wrote (in the link that u posted) that they got igo running without any additional settings, it detected the gps receiver and got a fix. and i tried using sim card in lpace as well, made no difference to the strange settings that it detects gps on all the ports but still cannot get a fix or show satellites, i even tried the reg edit with the GPSLOG files. deleted them soft reset etc.. but still the same.
Guest kav Posted January 5, 2009 Report Posted January 5, 2009 as far as I know, omnia GPS isnt a complete separate one. U need to be in connection to phone (sim card is MUST) strange because a gps chipset has nothing to do with a gsm chipset, these are two separate things and should work at two different frequencies, otherwise u could use the omnia as a satellite fone and make satellite calls. i have other pdas with gps and i run iGO when there is fone function off and there is no sim in the device. it runs withou problems and gets a fix.

It is program port com3. Yes, keep automatically GPS checked. Yes, igo running without a troble not like Poor TomTom. Your experince is very unique!!!! What's the exact version of iGo8? J.

I am using iGO ver 8.3.2.640 something. i dont remember the last digits, but i am certain that it is the one before the latest version used the latest version as well, 8.3.2.6478. the program runs fine but both have the same problem with the gps receiver.
Guest bobobird Posted January 5, 2009 Report Posted January 5, 2009 (edited) try this hard reset the phone disable enhanced gps option make sure settings for gps are default - ie com3, com 9 4800, auto have sim in phone, have a sd card in the card slot do not test with igo but try with the camera (in camera settings, select gps on, ok, close camera) Restart camera, in open space outside preferably. See if camera gets a gps fix (there will be a cancel button until there is a fix, dont cancel) If camera gets a fix (could take a few minutes) then the gps is working and it is the igo you have that is a problem. If camera does not get a fix then you have most likely have a defective unit. Report back. Edited January 5, 2009 by bobobird

Report back. tried with the camera. the icon of the gps appears on the top corner but it stays grey. cannot get a fix. stood outside for 10 mins in the cold <_< but no changes. is there any program that can see if the gps chipset is present and working, just to make sure that it is not a hardware problem?
Guest bobobird Posted January 6, 2009 Report Posted January 6, 2009 Since your have tried both options - software and hardware - and still cannot get a fix then it does sound like you may have a hardware problem. Take it to a service center.

Take it to a service center. finally got it to work.i used beeline gps, detected the gps eceiver rather quick. then i ran igo and it found the receiver quickly and got a fix in less than a sec. tried beeline gps again but it wouldnt work second time,it says cannot find receiver. fortunately the igo keeps getting a fix pretty quick. dont understand why but i am very happy it works, at least i know that it is not a hardware problem. i would like to thank all those people who used thier time for trying to help.

J. i think it doesnt work in the versions 8.3.2.64029 or the 8.3.2.6478 version either. i dont really use it anyway so i didnt really pay attention to these settings. will let u know if i manage to get it working.
Guest bobobird Posted January 9, 2009 Report Posted January 9, 2009 Latest TTS files work fine on 64873 but not 64029. Earlier TTS files are said to work on 64029 but have not tested that personally.
