6.1'd Blackjack questions

So i 6.1'd my blackjack a while back and went onto aim. it worked fine and all, but i went to my wireless manager and it said that it was on media.net. So i disconnected it and tried to send a msg, but it reconnected when i received one. so, does it now send data? i know when i first got the phone it sent as text. Is this just a different way for it to work and it still sends and receives using text msges? i don't have a data plan, and i can't afford the prices. It does the same thing for the other msgers aswell.
