Guest geeky Posted January 6, 2009 Report Posted January 6, 2009 (edited) Hi guys, sorry for a newb question but i have searched and have struggled to find the answers to the following; I have an omnia on Tmobile uk and have found reception to be fairly poor, I dont overly want to flash the entire phone but my previous phone (HTC Hermes) had the option to reflash only the radio rom and not the main sys rom. My current system details are; PDA : i900XXHH7/BOHH5 PHONE: i900BOHH2 I have put on all the tweaks around the forum and am really pleased with how my omnia is now performing, just need to sort the reception issue. Thanks; Andy Edited January 7, 2009 by geeky
Guest geeky Posted January 7, 2009 Report Posted January 7, 2009 Anyone? Im finding the samsung rom names very hard to understand!
Guest robsonalan Posted January 7, 2009 Report Posted January 7, 2009 I am on T-Mobile in the Uk and had the same rom, I have changed to DXHK3 rom to help with battery performance, but I dont think that there is any difference in signal strength or quality. That said I have never had a problem with the Signal in either standard 2G, 3G or High Speed Network Access.
Guest geeky Posted January 8, 2009 Report Posted January 8, 2009 Rob thanks for your reply. Is the battery significantly better? I dont mind flashing my rom but as i dont have a windows pc (all my machines run ubuntu) there is a lot of extra faff that im interested in for an extra hour or 2 on the battery. If i can get better reception then its worth doing.
Guest lamberps Posted January 9, 2009 Report Posted January 9, 2009 Rob, how did you get the firmware over BOHH5 ? I've tried and just get the incorrect version message when trying DXHK3 and others and can't use the incorrect version fix as the adminsettings.exe is removed by T-Mobile ! Thx
Guest robsonalan Posted January 9, 2009 Report Posted January 9, 2009 (edited) To answer both of the questions. Before when using the origional ROM I got about one and a half days use out of the battery at the most with light usage. I now get between 4-5 days out of the battery with the same/more usage. I did have S2U2 installed initially with the origional rom also which may have been causing battery problems. I now run SPB Mobile shell on it with the new firmware. As to installing the new firmware, I just downloaded the RAR from the link on here which gave me (if I remember a .CSC and .EXE file) I Installed the modem Driver on my XP Professional PC, again downloaded off here somewhere. Run the .exe file for the firmware on my PC. Plugged the phone into the cable and into the PC and then turned the phone off then back on. Initially I had a problem with the flash when it went to try to do something with COM ports that left the flash in a part failed state. So I tried the whole process again from another PC running XP Proffessional and it recovered and then flash worked fine this time. I didnt have to change any settings on anything, after running the .exe and rebooting the phone the update just automatically started. Edited January 9, 2009 by robsonalan
Guest geeky Posted January 9, 2009 Report Posted January 9, 2009 Interesting, thanks mate. I think il stay with my current rom as flashing via ubuntu is alot of hassle and I am getting 3-4 days out of one charge most days anyway. I guess my quest for better reception will continue!
