Hi,

New to Modaco and desperately in need of help. I recently ordered the i900 over e-bay which got shipped from Hong Kong. The Phone was in pristine condition when it came. It came with an instruction booklet in Polska. I wanted to update the ROM version on it and downloaded the latest ROM from Samsung's website. Since the ROM vesion was for Philippines, I changed the settings on the Phone to Philippines and upgraded the ROM. The phone worked perfectly fine for 2-3 days and after that I started having problems with the screen going completely blank. It sounds like the phone is still working (pushing buttons makes sounds, i can call the phone and it gives a ringtone etc), but the backlight appears to be totally off. What’s worse, is none of the standard "reset" actions restores the backlight - I've tried hitting the control pad button, hitting the power button, soft resetting, Hard resetting etc and NOTHING has worked so far.

The first time the screen went blank was when it was a very cold morning here and I moved from a room which had heating to my living room which was colder. The same afternoon the display came back while I was driving around in my car with the heater on and I had display briefly for a 2-3 hours. I'm pretty sure the blank display has got nothing to do with the cold weather here as my other Samsung Phone (an older non-WinMo, non-touch sensitive phone) works fine. Anyways coming back to the problem, the display was there for a few hours and then suddenly there were like a few white verticle lines and garbled color and the display has been out ever since. I contacted the Hong Kong based supplier and they want me to ship the unit back to them as the phone is still under warranty. But shipping back the phone is cost prohibitive and Samsung USA wont support me because its not a US phone.

I would appreciate any help on my issue, since I want to explore all my options before sending the phone back to HK and then waiting for it to come back. Oh ya....one other thing I tried was to try and reflash the ROM in case some power save settings of the phone had caused the display to go blank.

I saw same problem in my omnia, I hink that it is only standby (but no wake up) it is depending on your software, after hard reset - my phone is working fine (nevere went standby like this.)

firstly you can hard reset your software, if you see same problem you can update your rom.

Ps: on the other hand my friend has same problem, also he hard reseted his phone, but it has still same problem.

I've tried a Hard Reset as per limited support provided by Samsung USA Tech support. They asked me to press the Call+End+Power buttons at the same time. I've tried doing this over and over again, but there has been no change in my status.

Start Menu>Settings>System>Hard Reset try this one.

or *#81230*#

or

1.Press the soft reset hole beside your power button

2.Press the Call and Cancel Button together when you see the Samsung Omnia on the screen

3.The Reset Screen appear

This hard reset does not erase the 16GB memory. To reset everything, you could use the software hard reset by going to Settings > Hard Reset. There is also option to format the storage card.

If you decided not to format and press cancel, that will soft reset the phone.(this informatin taken from someone web sites)

Kubilay, I appreciate you trying to help me here, but the problem is that I donot see ANYTHING on the screen. Its blank. The only indication that the phone is working is from the fact that it makes a sound when I switch it on or off and press the End button. I cannot see the Samsung Omnia also. The screen shows no display whatsoever. I increasingly get the feeling that the LCD is dead as a dodo.

I once face this too even I try reset several times but the screen backlight won't come back :), so I try remove the battery out of the phone for a moment and put it back and start up the phone and backlight is coming back and it never go blank like that since now.

Hi

This issue of 'blank screen' was common on old Roms. What version did you install? The new one from the Samsung web site (DXHK3) should be free from this problem.

In the older rom, it was reported to occur when the etiquette mode was enabled and widget was used at the same time. Try samsung 2 and turn off the etiquette mode and see if the problem occurs again.

I don't remember what ROM the phone came with, but I remember updating it to i900DXHJ1 first (downloaded from here) and after that the phone had a display for like 2 days. It was after that I enabled the etiquette Mode and the phone continued to have display. But one morning it suddenly went dead (the display). I did try to unsuccessfully flash i900DXHK3 downloaded from the Samsung website. There has been no change in the state of my phone. I'll try to reflash the ROM again.

i am not sure about this solution but you can try, in settings>system>power>battary power

On battary power :Turn off device.

if device is not used for : 1 minutes.(change this value to 2 minutes)

also select turn of backlight if device not used for : 10 second (it should selected - check box-checked)(change this valu 20 second)

turn on backlight when a button is pressed or the screen is tabbed (it should - check box - checked)

we now that every value, [setting] (changing) system registry, i think that this problem coming from registy, my advice is, firstly uncheck every setting, than say ok (close this tab) than enter again this tab and change all values, say yes (ok) close tab, and set your personal values and say yes(ok)

if this bug depending on registry, it should fix after this steps, it seems stupid but it can fix.(you dont lose anything please try.)

Ok turns out that I cannot reflash the ROM as it already has DXHK3 on it. Unless I try to flash something which is more recent than this ROM. Is it not possible to downgrade ROMs. I now seem to remember that mine came with DXHH3 initially and the phone used to work fine then.
