hi everybody..,

i need help with my omnia. i just bought an 8gb omnia. i put in some music, a few novels, a few programs and used up about 3GB out of the 8GB storage space. a few hours later, went to check my space and found out that the 8GB was all used up. i used the hard reset option that comes with the phone, and got the 8 gb back. this time, i put less stuff in and watched it. sure enough, a few hours later, the 8GB was all gone again. i'm afraid to hard reset the main memory in case something goes wrong with the phone..

i'm going crazy.. is this fixable, or do i go and return the phone? i really like the phone.

kept on surfing until i stumbled on a post somewhere that mentioned that this forum works..

i need help

will a ROM upgrade fix this problem or is it just a virus?

where do i get a ROM upgrade?

how do i tweak the omnia?

where can i get good freeware for the omnia.

i'd really appreciate the help.. thanks guys..

I had the same problem. Samsung tech support and vzw tech support had no idea why, so I exchanged it for another one. The next one worked fine as far as that issue goes. I assume you're still in the first 30 days.

I love this phone, HOWEVER, I have had so many problems with ALL 4 I have had (in less than 3 weeks no less). The problem you are referring to requires you take it back immediately before your time runs out with Verizon. The Verizon people are clueless as to what this phone does and how to fix anything. When I have a problem they put me on hold - 4 ever - but they try their best. I had to go directly to Samsung.

The first Samsung Tier 3 rep said that this is a common problem. He said he gets a call about this issue a least 5 times a week. He said that all information passes through the devices primary memory before it goes to storage. It ( the main memory) is catching glitches processing all the data that is being sent (moves, music large files). He said that I needed to cut and past all large files "directly" to he 8 gig storage by using mass storage settings.

This is where you connect the phone to the USB and make it a USB transfer - not a data call. When you do that a removable hard rive is seen when you go to "My Computer". You drag that to your desktop and you are then able to drag and drop files into it bypassing the main memory all together. Great I idea - in theory.

I did as instructed. I only put 3 gig's on the storage. There was close to 5 gig's left. 2 hours later - BAM - another memory full message pop's up. Mind u I had already hard rest the thing twice - the day before - and this was "supposed" to be the magic fix.

I called i again. The next Tier 3 rep said that the first one I talked to - the day before - had no clue as to what he was talking about (great). This was NOT a common problem. He said that he had never heard of this happening. He said it was defective. Told me to take it back. So I did.

If i understant this right, the free space gets full???

Cause my problem is that my storage disappears completly. I play a movie or a mp3, and the movie or the song stops, and I get a notice, that the file cant be found, and when i want to check the file in file explorer, my storage is gone. And in settings/memory/storage card theres is only bluetooth FTP, but no my storage.

Posted

I am also experiencing this problem- Have transferred maybe 3-4 gigs of music to my Omnia in a combination of Active Sync and Mass Storage Mode, and a few days later it says I have no memory...

Has anyone figured out a solution yet? or return and pray for the next phone to work?

When your Omnia is on the Mass Storage USB connection, you won't find the My Storage folder in file explorer while it's connected to the PC.

I know that, but the phone is not connected to the PC. My problem is that my storage disappears when im watching a movie, or listening to a mp3, and in the middle of the song or a movie, "the files/my storage" disappear.

Experiencing the same issue. My Omnia is set to USB mass storage mode. I can play videos on it fine. But most of the time, after unplugging the cable from the PC (and even doing a safe remove from Windows), My Storage does not reappear on the device.

I have to reset the Omnia to get it showing in File Explorer again. Happens daily. I've found no way to fix this. Could there be a registry setting on the Omnia to force it to re-display My Storage in File Explorer after its disconnected from the PC?

Or, does anyone know a way to get really fast transfer speeds when the phone is in ActiveSync mode?

I'm getting this also, happened last night when I was watching a video. I read somewhere that installing all apps in device memory might help. Gonna try that.

To all

My external storage (or "Storage Card") keep on showing space used up. After doing some debugging I found out the problem is due to Touch Player (It is a MP3 and Video player that comes with it).

The bug is as followed:

If u put your mp3 songs in your external storage (external flash), if u play the song using Touch Player, after a while, you will notice your Flash storage is completely used up! The memory indicator shows fully used up and u also cannot copy files into it. If u plug it to your computer and set the USB as storage, when u use your "My Computer" and check the properties, it shows 100% used but if u select all files and directory and check properties, it show only the total MB that those files and directories use.

When u try to copy files from mp3 directory (external flash) out to your computer, some files encounter problem or corruption that u can't copy.

Solution/Walkaround I did so far:

Copy whatever that is in your external flash (except the mp3) to your computer. Then unplug and use the build in format function to format it. If your firmware do not have format function, u can use your computer to format it just like normal Hard Disk or Thumb Drive. Then copy back whatever that is original in the external flash back to your Omnia.

Then DO NOT USE Touch Player anymore. It is very buggy software. Use Windows Media Player or TCPMP or Coreplay or any other 3rd party player instead.

If some of the mp3 files u want but is corrupted, them too bad. Because when u format, it is all gone. U have to format it in order to recover the missing bytes/storage in your flash.

as the above poster said, its most likely touch player

It happened to me when i first got the phone every time i refreshed the library with touch player. Only use media player or another third party app. I have flashed different firmware now with touch player removed.

I had this problem for ages and have just found a sort of fix or workaround. This problem (My Storage getting hidden from the device after unplugging it from the PC) happened on my Omnia only when the phone was in USB mode (not ActiveSync).

USB mode gave a much faster throughput than ActiveSync, which was my reason for using it. But, when I unplugged the USB cable from the Omnia (whether I 'safely remove hardware' or not), My Storage sometimes never reappeared on the device. The ONLY way to bring it back was to soft reset.

Now, I have found something that seems to work for me but needs further testing. If you put your device into ActiveSync mode (Start > Settings > Connections tab > USB Connection Mode), and enable Advanced networking fuctionality (Start > Settings > Connections tab > USB to PC and check the box and press OK), my file transfers through this method of ActiveSync seems quite (not as slow as without advanced networking off)!

It needs more testing. With Advanced networking fuctionality unchecked, ActiveSync transfers are unbareablely slow!

Can any one else who has problems with My Storage completely disappearing after unplugging from the PC confirm if my method above gives transfer speeds closer to USB mode? It seems to for me. By the way, if you're going to compare tranfer times between USB mode and ActiveSync with advanced networking functionality, don't use the Omnia's stopwatch! It slows down the ActiveSync transfer.

EDIT: Results of my benchmark

These were my results for an 80 MB AVI file transfer:

ActiveSync with advanced networking unchecked (from Omnia to PC): 1m 50s

ActiveSync with advanced networking unchecked (from PC to Omnia): Couldn't be bothered waiting!

ActiveSync with advanced networking checked (from Omnia to PC): 0m 36s

ActiveSync with advanced networking checked (from PC to Omnia): 0m 31s

USB mode (from Omnia to PC): 0m 17s

USB mode (from PC to Omnia): 0m 22s

From my results we can see plain USB transfer mode is double the speed of ActiveSync with advanced networking mode on. But, ActiveSync without the advanced option is horribly slow. I think I can bare slightly slower speed of AS with advanced option on compared to putting it in USB mode and risking My Storage to disappear again and waste more time restarting the Omnia.

Had same problem with Touch Player scanning function.

This bug was never fixed till now;

Solution: Change you Music Player. Pocket Music Player Bundle 5.2 is nowadays a very good solution (from: Pocketmind.com)

...or just transfer media files via mass storage, as we'd be supposed to do? :D

transfer via activesync may cause file corruption leading to lack of storage memory issue

I don't think this issue is related to the player or the spaces left of "my storage".

This problem is still on my Omnia. When running GPS application that the files located in the "my storage", The "my storage" can disappear too.

I burned a new ROM and use HTC Audio Manager as the music player. There are only less than 2GB files in "my storage". So this issue is not related to the software.

I had the same problem. What I found is that "My Storage" dismounts to save battery. The only fix I ever found is to hard reset.
