Guest samHDS Posted January 7, 2009 Report Posted January 7, 2009 (edited) Hi guys, i am experiencing some problem on my laptop to connect to my school's network. however my omnia is able to connect to the network via wifi. therefore is there a way to allow my laptop connect to the internet via my omnia via wifi? I have read the threads on teethering on omnia and using programmes such as wifirouter and ICS for omnia. however for what i see, they will connect me to the 3G network instead of using my wifi. Even when i am connected to a wifi network, it will still connect to the 3G network. Under my internet sharing on my omnia, network connection only shows GPRS, MMS and Operator. Theres no wifi What should i do to allow my laptop connect to my omnia's wifi? Edited January 7, 2009 by samHDS

Theres no wifi What should i do to allow my laptop connect to my omnia's wifi? Do a google search fo ICScontrol. it's a free program over at the XDA forums that will do just what you need. This wont make any sense now, since you've never used the prgram, but when you start it, choose "public interface" to be the wifi adapter, on my omnia it's JaguarGSP1, choose "Private Interface" to be "RNDISFN1", if you want to share over usb. If you want to share the connection over bluetooth, use "BTPAN1". Check the "set private IP", choose something other than the default from the drop down menu. Choose "auto connect to network" and choose "the internet". Uncheck "allow suspend mode". Then scroll down, check "set last DHCP IP to DMZ host", without this checked, I couldn't share the network connection. If you connect using either BT or USB, you need to make sure you don't let the phone go to suspend mode, disable it, otherwise when the screen shuts off, your connection shuts off, unless the allow suspend checkbox means it works in suspend...I haven't played with that function yet. Anyway, try this, let us know if it works. Oh, when you do connect in activesync mode, don't sync the device. Once you set up the progam, connect to the wifi network on the phone, open ICScontrol, start ICS control(remember to have saved your settings using the "save" button), wait a few seconds, and plug it into the PC. I hope this works, if not, the thread at XDA has a lot of fixes for different issues you might come across. Edited January 7, 2009 by ryboto

The program only displays messages if there's a problem, otherwise, it just starts in the background. Just make sure to start it before you connect the device to the PC.

Hello ryboto, i have exactly the same problem. Did you manage to solve it?

What you should do is go through some settings on you PC instead of doing this. I assume that your TCP/IP settings are wrong, but there can also be other reasons, like do you have a certificate you need to install to acces the web, which encryption is used, do you have accounts or you are granted over simple key? wm is lacking alot of advanced setup and is doing it automatically to make it easier to connect, but on your pc you will have to enter all the settings correctly
